Hi all, this months "Classic Cars For Sale" has a pull out section called Top classic cars revealed. We're listed as best GT, and in best overall classic as Commended, next to the "E" type. Both positive write ups'. Well pleased. Martin.
Martin whats that magazine that keeps insulting the stag calling it a "cut price merc"?It might have been the case when new compared to the pagoda sl merc, but the stag leaves the 70s sl merc standing in the looks department.

bought one new.... Next to the GM car diesel of the 1970-80's they were/are the most unreliable peice of 'engineering disaster' to ever drive on a road.
There is only one way to buy a Stag, buy the most expesive restored one you can find.Make 100% sure it has a Rimmer brothers engine ,accept nothing less.
On mine ,by the time it had covered less than 35,000 miles it had ;
1/a new crank shaft,
2/ the heads had been removed and replaced 5 times,
3/ the water pump had to be replace twice ( it's a tiny little device under the intake which takes a full day to remove) .
4/The timing chain had broken twice.Once while I was sitting in the car with the LH cam cover off setting the timing ,I actually saw the chain double on the cam sprocket and snap.
5/ the crankshaft was too soft and had to be reground 35 thou undersize.
6/The cam bearing caps are too small and can be broken when the cam shafts bend, which they do when the car overheats and the heads warp..
The twin distributor shaft bent ,
7/replacing the powersteering belt involves removing the battery, which involved removing the alternator.
8/ the cooling system has a 25lb.(!!!) pressure cap,a new heater hose burst one night requiring the engine to have new rings etc fitted.
9/the water from leaking head gaskets cuased the exhaust to rust out.
When buying a stag always look for rust, these cars rust Everywhere!.
10/ buy a mercedes SL!!!
I know it's an old (ish) post but what a complete load of twaddle
I did feel a bit of a rant coming on when I read that little lot, but I managed to suppress it! I thought I'd leave it for someone else . (No7 got me. What a load of ********!

Seems to me that Ron B from Australia would not be able to form an educated opinion on the TV8 if his life depended upon it, he probably descends from a long line of convicts, shipped out to van demons land for crimes against British engineering
