Feel like I have a new sports car!!!

I changed the diaphragms on my carbs this weekend and after cocking it up twice and having a very poorly car I managed to get it right.

Drove it to work this morning and it started straight away with no rough running. Drove it and it revved quicker than before and pulled right through the gears with an even delivery. Even on motorway in 4th overdrive it kept pulling and felt lighter, quicker and much better to drive than before

So anyway thought I'd share my happiness!! One thing is its idling at just over 1000 revs which seems a little high by the engine note. How can I reduce this?

Excellent, you will enjoy driving it much more now! To reduce the idling speed you probably need to just turn the fast idle screws. You will have to make sure that the carbs are balanced either with a flow meter or a piece of tube. This job is really straightforward and covered in the ROM, do you have one?

      Hi Simon

As Brian has said you need to adjust the fast idle screw on each carb by following the instructions in the ROM/Haynes and you need one of these

A few of us got them from USA cheaper but can not find the link now:?

Hi Simon, I don't want to spoil the party, but you're better off finding another member who has experience of tuning carbs, at least for the first time, it's too easy to get it wrong. You need to disconnect the rods and cables before you start, and when you've got them set up and balanced, you need to re-connect everything without disturbing the settings, it's not that straightforward. I wish you well with it mate, but it's quite a skilled operation. Martin.

the stag was flying on the motorway but I was worried when in a queue for an hour coming out of a car park by the MEN Arena, didn;t over heat though the fan came in as and when required

Bought mine at Webcon UK in London. It is a bit cheaper and the cheapest I could find in Europe.

What is money but a means to happiness? No point having it if you're not spending it!

Hmmm... spread over the front of the engine, lots of hoses drooping everywhere. I prefer the perky shiny minimalist view.
