Problems getting a locking wheel nut off

My wifes car a Chrysler Grand Voyager got a puncture on the way to Manchester luckily a few hundred yds from my house so got it back outside. Well started to change the wheel at 1am when I got back.
got all the nuts off bar the locking nut and after many attempts with a wheel brace and socket set the feckin thing won;t come undone becuase the locking nut adaptor won;t stay on .As soon as you apply pressure it comes off. Its as if its worn down inside!!!

Is there anything that you can do to get this nut off or will I have to get a new locking nut adaptor? Its going to take at least 5 working days to order a new locking nut key at £25!!

    Hi Simon

I had this problem with my S-Max. I even called the RAC out and they couldnt get it off either!

It had to go to my mates garage in the end and they had to drill it out! My suggestion would be to call you breakdown co. out they may have a locking wheel nut extractor which moulds itself round the locking nut.....

    Best of Luck!

    Regards

    Christian.

Locking wheel nut removal tool from a motor factor may do it.

Its a hardened, internal taperleft hand threaded tool.

Type 'locking wheel nut remover' into ebay. Plenty on there and there may be one close to you.

Unless you have 'Trilock' locking nuts. They are extremely difficult to remove with anything other than the proper key as they have a hardened collar that rotates to prevent the usual type of removal key from gripping.

Don't forget, we have severe weather coming and further delays are expected RE: mail/parcels.

          Sukh.

Depends a bit on the type of locking nut. On the BMW it has splines round the outside and I hammered a slightly too small socket over the top. Had to use quite a big hammer - but it worked.
On the Ford I managed to start it moving with a hammer and chisel.
If all else fails then spot weld a nut on the end through the centre hole and use a spanner.. :?

              And it's another red stag!

You may find that someone with an impact wrench will have more success. It will "hammer" the key into the wheel nut as it tries to turn it thus reducing the chance of it slipping. If possible i would be inclined to try and gently heat the wheel nut with a blowlamp or heat gun. BE CAREFUL IF IT IS A "PosH" ALLOY As eXCESSIVE HEAT WILL RUIN THE FINISH.

Failing that provided its not the sort that has a rotating hardened steel outerjust get a normal socket that is slightly too small and bash it on. WARNING - it usually works but it will ruin the socket and won't do the nut much good either!

Well, bearing in mind it's Red to Stop and Green to Go, Ithought that if you can't get your nuts off despite the help of all the Red Stag boys, then maybe a Green Stag might help

                        Good luck
