    Garage Heater quick question

I have one of those nice warm Master space heaters that runs on Paraffin and it produces around 30k BTU's so need to get it down from the garage room for winter use.

This many a stupid question, but being that Gordon Brown's mob taxed paraffin heavily as they realised that people were using it for patio heaters, is there anything else I could use to run it or thin the paraffin with? Presume old engine oil wouldn't burn and would eject bad fuel?

Its between £7 and £10 a gallon and that would give me about 3 hours running

    Cheers

Hi Andrew, there's also the point about the amount of water produced by burning paraffin. I think you might need a dehumidifier as well. Martin.

You're right Martin, I think its a pint for every gallon burnt. I don't worry about that too much being that it chucks out so much heat, the side door or windows is always open in use. You can wear shorts out there when working on the car, is that warm

I have been told that you can dilute your oil engine oil in with the paraffin and as long as the fuel can be sprayed, it would work. This is why I am not sure if it would emit an oily mist of whether is would be burnt off. It may mean less water produced. The end of the heater looks like the rear of an F14 Tomcat when its going at normal pace, big red glow. Its the nearest I have got to summer in winter time.

Martin, do you think I need to get out more?

      Cheers

Andrew, domestic heating oil might be your answer, worth looking into.

heating oil whether in 28 sec or 35 sec form would need to be burnt through a high pressure burner and heat sourced indirectly as it burns with a yellow flame and would get smelly and dangerous because of the poc,s.

why not try a log burner even one with a heat exchanger then you could run rads and burn old pallets and other peoples fences/garden furnitureto keep warm

              Thanks All.

I have a feeling that if I burn my old engine oil and work on Stag I may come out looking like Al Jolson from the Black and White Minstrels

Have had a quiet work with my hardware store and he will let me have it for £6 a Gallon. Getting there. I was going to try the wife's gravy but there is no way the lumps with get through the spray head

              Cheers

I think I would be concerned with carbon monoxide poisoning, trying to burn engine oil. I would imagine it would smoke pretty bad as well!

I used to run one on heating Oil I liberated from my parents tank in the garden. It seemed to burn OK and didn't create any soot or anything.

Why not go down the propane route!
My heater warms up my double garage in about 10 minutes and then keeps a nice background heat.
The bottle costs £30.00 I have not worked out how many hours its last for,but onlybuy onebottle

                              Malcolm, that is shear luxury.

You are right, should go down the gas route. I thinks only as I replaced the spark actuator in my space heater for about £80 and on principal, am going to use it. It may cost me more thanI thought for this privilege

                              Think you are right
