Sorry to hear that Roger. Unfortunately our inability to maintain our travel system in anything other than perfect weather is affecting millions. My Brother-in-Law, his Wife and two small boys (one 15 months) were supposed to be arriving at LHR from Detroit this morning for a Christmas break. It seems they took off 5 hours late and, according to the tracker on http://www.flightstats.com they are currently in a hold somewhere off the coast of Boston whilst someone decides what to do. Heathrow is not accepting any arrivals today :X:X

What a coinicedence My bother and family usually come home from Detriot at Xmas but we decided to delay the flight home until later in January to coincide with 50th birthday.

Well we have had an update. The flight was about 4.1/2 hours late leaving Detroit. Then they spent 4.1/2 hours in the air only to land at JFK, less than 650 miles from where they started. They are now spending the day in NY and flying again tonight - hopefully landing at Heathrow tomorrow morning.

I'm hopefully flying from Houston to LHR tomorrow, fingers crossed, I really don't fancy spending Chrimbo in G Bush International.

We are now only going to be in houston for 24 hours because we have a connecting flight to Orlando.Should be enough time to exchange pressies and not much else.

This was the M40 Northbound in Oxfordshire yesterday lunchtime. A real slow slog coming back to the Midlands from a party in Brighton on Friday night. An hour after this pic was taken some poor soul 35 yards ahead of us in the inside lane did a 90 right and came straight across us. The X type I was driving at around 35mph hit him pretty much in line with his front wheel. Didn't feel too bad as there was little resistance offered by his tyres to the snow so we left him spinning andI managed to get our car on to the slip road that was just ahead of us. The cops weren't really interested as no one appeared to be hurt (someone further back pulled over and said the guy was on the shoulder with his mobile plugged to his head). I hope we can get his details from plod eventually as clearly his insurance should pay. The Jag has a mashed wing and a broken steering rack so I've no idea how I managed to drive it 500 yards and get it off the motorway. S**t happens, I guess, and nobody hurt so no real damage done apart from my left ear from my two sxcreaming female passengers!

Fortunately it's a company car Steve so some other poor bugger will have all that hassle. I just came back from over an hour at our local station just to present the documents and formalise the report I phoned in from the schene!

              Good job they weren't busy!

Hi Adie, I was in Brighton Friday for a party as well. It was a bit of a heavy night, so didnt wake at the normal 6-7 and peeked out of the window at 9 to see a a bit of sleet and no snow. Switched on the TV and wondered if I was watching a recording on the telly talking about Gatwick being shut, dont travel etc.

A couple of hours for breakfast and a walk into town and I was thinking that I should be on the road as a couple of people phoned up and advised us to get home.

Was almost on the road when I realised that I hadnt closed the bar tab and my credit card was still behind the bar :shock::shock::shock::shock::shock:Luckily, no one had abused it after I had left but it took another hour to get to the car....

It wasnt the best journey home (3 hours for 50 miles vs 6 hours for someone who left early )but I was glad that I didnt have to go up the M40 as that sounded pretty bad.

I had no choice but to go out in the snow yesterday morning to pick up SWMBO and SWMBO Junior from the nearest station as they were on their way back from London. However the snow socks saved the day again. The northbound A3 was treacherous and came to a complete standstill an an inclined section as the lorries and cars just lost traction. I was about 300 yards frommy exit so I just snowploughed my way along the hard shoulder past the lot and turned off! :dude: However a normal 20 minute return trip still took 2 hours.

                      Bob.

More again this morning! Not going anywhere by road today by the looks of it.

Still waiting for TNT to collect the package from LDparts that should have arrived today :X
