3D graphics

I know you are a clever lot on here so wondered if anyone is a bit of a dab-hand at knocking up fairly simple 3d images of buildings from simple non-electronically produced plan / elevation.

As a mere architect who uses a drawing-board I can do isometric's but not perspectives, and have a friend who I am doing a little scheme for that wants a perspective.

It's a beer-token job really as I don't have decent enough fees on this one to pay decent money, but there could be some better paying jobs in the future.

Hmmm! I could dip my toe in here and ask what kind of 3D perspective results you might be expecting? Models are one thing, photo realistic with lights and shadows are another. A few more details of your expectations please, and I might now a man who could help.

Hello John,

The building itself is quite simple as it is currently a dilapidated white painted, flat-roofed single-story cube which is being re-ordered internally and then the roof will used as a sun- terrace (so there is new glass / solid screens around the perimeter of it) and an external staircase (partly enclosed) added to the side.

The more "realistic" the graphic can look the better, so photo-realism and light / shading would obviously be beneficial. I know another option might be to Photoshop the existing pictures but, again, I wasn't skilled enough!

Hi Ian,

Have you tried Google SketchUp. It is a free 3D drawing package which is used by some architects I work with. Shadows & perspective are OK but not sure if/how it can be used with a photo background. Might be possible to take a view from SketchUp & overlay it onto a jpg photo.

Happy to draw it on SketchUp if it would help -could you send me scans ofthe drawings?
