Forgive my ignorance Al - but in layman's terms (I think you and I are the same age Al) what does an "Android" phone do that a simple ordinary mobile phone (like what I have!) doesn't.
Is it a competator to the Iphone and similar?
I use my mobile phone for making calls, and occasional texting, and that's it. Am I missing something?

          Hi Terry,
Android is thre name of the Operating System the the phone runs........ just like XP or Windows 7, Ubuntu etc.

Android is actually a Linux variant, bought by Google a while ago and is used by a number of phone manufacturers for their 'Smart' phones, where you have an very rich internet browser and the ability to run other applications like Sat Nav plus 000's of others

basically it is used to refer to the OS run by a number of Smart phones

          hope that helps ...........Andy

After dropping my iphone into water after a couple of days i was given it i was reluctant to get another flash phone but my brother gave me a an HTC desire phone, just trying to get the hang of it,what worries me a bit is how easy it is to ring someone by mistake by accidently touching the screenwhilst searching for a number, any friend of mine on facebook with a phone number on thereseems to be entered on my phone as well, how i dont know, some of the people are in America, dont really want to be ringing them up like a krank in the middle of the night by mistake.

yeah, it one of the biggest iphone os rivals, the man difference is the open source, meaning people can hack, change and do what ever they want with it

I've got the HTC Desire and still approx 95% of the time, I cannot make a phone call thanks to crap Vodafone coverage.

They want £50 to enhance my signal at home.
I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!
