    Showing up the youngsters

Just came back from hols in Barbados - yep 85F to 8.5" of snow!

Honda Civic - Valet company had to jump start it to get it to us
Lotus Elise - Had to use a powerpack to get it running and then the the EMU got confused and could not steady the revs and it kept cutting out.

The Stag? Key in. Choke out, turn key, 8 seconds later the 36 year old beast awoke with a growl and purred at a nice fast tickover. Despite the temps a few minutes later the choke got pushed right in and t was raring to go.

How about that for showing up the youngsters and their computerised systems and 'modern' engines?

After over 3 weeks it drives like a dream.

I had a certain pride when it shrugged off the extreme weather and just git ini with it.

Used it every evening over the last few days.

Got back 15th December after 2 weeks in Spain.

Before we went, I spent about £1000 getting Volvo estate ready for journey (Ferry to Santander then drive down to Moraira)with 4 Brand new Michelins, new rear calipers, pads, fluid change, major service etc., left home at 5.30 am, snowing quite heavy, got about 20 minutes from home, just South of M4 j11 on A33 when I got a puncture.

Wife was in front seat tucked up nice and warm, asleep, suffering with a bit of flu, car fully laden with stuff for Spanish home.

Had to empty full load onto road in lay by, dark, still snowing. Absolute nightmare, travelled on to destination with spare 'space saver' wheel, driving over the recommended speed for that wheel, won't say by how much, still frightens me to think of it.

Point of this story, no matter how much you prepare, you cannot control it, just enjoy the Stag without worrying (it's never let me down yet - wow that's the kiss of death!).

If it's going to happen, it will.

            Jeff.

People have asked me how the Stag has been starting too...it amazes them that it does indeed start better than some of their modern cars! Even in minus 18!
Drive a Stag every day... it's wonderful!

After reading this post I just had to go and start the Stag which has been outside under a cover for the past two months without going anywhere or being started, and yep once the snow and cover was taken off, she started straight up, wont take it out though cos the track to the road is very icy at the moment, everything is struggling with it other than the Landrover.

No matter how hot it gets out here I never normally have a problem starting as long as I pull the choke out full when the engine is cold.
The only time it struggles to start is if I have left it standing for a few weeks without turning the engine over. I am no expert on this but I think it is something to do with the fuel/fuel vapour in the carbs (twin strombergs) and I think this subject has been covered before by someone. It does start after being left, but not on the first turn of the key.

PS. This Forum seems to be getting slower & slower in responding - when can we expect the new software?

I have a certain pride in telling people about the old girl starting so well.

Quite odd really - as a little while ago you may have remembered post by byself about bad starting as ut was getting colder.

Maybe mine starts best if it's warm or bleedin' freezing
