    Helicoils

I have suffered my first stripped thread and have been seaching around for a repair kit. Could someone please advise which Companyto deal with. Suppose its best to get the more common sizes and am assuming that originally all threads in aluminiumwere UNC.

    Hi Mike

Sorry to hear your troubles. Which thread have you stripped? Inlet manifold?

Hi Mike, it all boils down to what you want to pay, I would would plum for a kit that included a drill bit to suit, otherwise you will need a Zeus book or similar to identify the drill size. I think that any Helicoil kit will do from a DIY point of view as a steel thread will always be stronger than the original in ali.

        best of luck.

        Ian.

From what you describe it sounds like you need a 5/16 UNC kit, I have one but am in South London if your close.

          Hi Mike

Is it one of these bolts, if so, it shows the thread size?

These are the people I used and the product, price and service was excellent: http://www.chronos.ltd.uk/acatalog/I...PAIR_KITS.html

Unfortunately they're showing out of stock of 5/16 UNC at the moment but it could be worth a call. Gives you an idea of price if you buy elsewhere though - maybe try ebay?

              Cheers

                  Hi Andrew,

Totally agree with Max Once you start doing it and getting it right, it becomes strangely addictive

                    Hi Julian

It also gets rid of that feeling of "do I undo that or take that off, will I have a problem afterwards"? And, it allows you to tighten things up just that little bit extra with peace of mind.

                      Hi Andrew,

                      Absolutely

And when one goes in properly you get a feeling of satisfaction that you are really improving your car's engineering.

                      Cheers

                        Hi Fellas

Many thanks for your advice. Will follow up on it and see if my memory cells remember how to do it.

Thanks for a great club and look forward to meeting some of you next year when I should be on the road and going to some shows.

Best Wishes for the New year
