Original reg number

As the stag was quite aupmarket car they quite often had private plates put on at some pointbut when the owner decided to sell(but keep his plate)an age related plate was issued as we all know.

I liked the idea of getting the original regnumber back on my car,the one it left the showroom with, unfortunately in my cars case the number now resides on a much newer vehicle.

Anyone who wants to try and retrieve the cars original number try DVLA on 03001230883 and speak to an advisor.

I was under the impression that if you bought a personal number plate, it could still be reclaimed for the original car?

my jag has a private plate, and i have had it for 4 different cars, when ever i have changed it the number i took off was given to that car. I suppose had it been a good number dvla would have sold it as they dont gaurentee the old number coming back.

4. What do you get for your money?

You buy the right to have the registration number assigned to a vehicle registered in your name,or in the name of another person (the Nominee).

The Nominee has no right to the registration number until it is assigned to their vehicle.

We will send you a ‘Certificate of Entitlement’ (V750). This will include details of:


• the registration number;

• the Purchaser and Nominee; and

• the date the right to assign the registration number will end (see section 7).

You can extend the right for a further one year, two years or three years. You can add (if you do not have one), or change a Nominee up until or at the same time the registration number is assigned. More details about this are on the V750 (see section 8).

2001 eh ? that sounds about right. we were at the NEC classic car show, and I was off the stand but got a phone, call could I get back quick, there was a problem, arrived at the stand and was accosted by a bloke with a microphone. The reason they picked on me was the car was in the right position and nobody else would do it.
