    sell stag or keep?

    hi all,
my story i one of woe.
i have hankered after a stag since a kid in 1970"s.
i realised the dream bought the best stag i could afford at the time slowly improved it and was going for a full respray, well that was the plan.
Anyway life just doesnt always work out and i have been diagnosed with epilepsy
so there goes driving for at least one year and my job is in the balance at the moment, not good for anyone in Eire believe me.
i am sure some one on here will have had a similar experience at some point
Anyway i am not sure what to do with my stag as i will sit for at least a year minimum if all goes well.
should i sell it and purchase another, as now that i have bought i seem to see plenty for sale better than mine.
its not a question of finance its just seeing it sat week after week that will p%(S me off big time.
Anyway thanks for letting have a bit of a rant its good for you i am told,
    any views really appericated.
    regards john

    Hi John,

That's really tough, you have my sympathies and I do hope things turn out ok for you.

A few years ago I started suffering really bad joint pains and was almost completely paralysed some days. The specialists diagnosed it as an incurable disease that was just going to get worse Fortunately for me, they appear to have been wrong and I've been fine for the past 4 years however it does remain a bit of a 'Sword of Damicles' hanging over my head

Anyway, when I came through this 'incurable disease' I went out and bought myself a pretty good bike to celebrate and started doing a lot more cycling. Ironically, this scare has helped to make my life better

As for your car, that's a tough call. My instinct says that if you do sell and buy again then you'll never know what you're buying. At least you've got a pretty good idea of what your car is like now. If it's pretty good, I think I'd be tempted to hang on in there and spend the year ahead getting it into tip top condition if that's possible. That way, if you're driving again in a year you'll have a goodcar you know and if you've got to sell it then at least the work you've done should help you to sell it.

Whatever happens, I wish you all the very best.

    Cheers

    Julian

Hi John, sorry to hear your bad news, for what it's worth my initial thought would be keep it and use the time to get it exactly how you would like it, frustrating as it is. If it is usable is there someone else who could chauffeur you around.

Best of luck for the future.

      Ian.

        Hi John,

        Julian sums up my thoughts:
        • Hope that things are not as bad as you currently fear, and you recover quickly.
        • Hang on to what you have and, if at all possible, use it as therapy. Work on it when you can to improve it and set a goal to getting it finished and back on the road when you are.

All the best for 2011, and good luck.

          Hello John,

Very sorry to hear the news, and I wish you well.

From what you say, financial issues aren't making you consider selling and you seem to have progressed towards getingt it how you wanted it. If both of those are true and you have the space to store it somewhere that it won't deteriorate through lack of use, then what the others have said makes sense - the devil you know and all that.

Sometimes though you do just fall out of love with a car and selling it is best. What I picked up on is the fact you say you have seen "plenty" of cars "better" than yours so, putting the medical news aside, are you actually happy with the car at present?

            Hi John

Sorry to hear your news, maybe things will turn out better than it looks at the moment. Personally I would use the time to do work on the car, with no temptation to take it out on the road you could get a lot done.

Best of luck and hope things improve

            cheers

              Hi John

Sorry to hear about the news.

Do bare in mind two things

              1 A year soon passes

2 Dont carry on looking at stags for sale after youv'e bought one if it can be avoided, there always seems to be a better bargain afterwards, happens all the time with me.

Guttedfor you John, but asothers have said If you can keep the stag without it deteriating and get it up to scratch the way you want it,I would.

                Good luck Steve

sorry to hear about your situation.........I'll buck the trend ......... unless you have a big attachment to the car - or want to have a project during your year away from the wheel - i'd sell in the late Spring.

That will remove the 'my car is deteriorating without any use' thoughts from your mind, you can concentrate on other - stuff family/health/job - without the car acting as a distraction.

Assuming no more events, you can make the choice whether you want to get back into Stag ownership or not next year.

                  ......... Andy

Sorry to hear your news, but as much as it hurts me to say I have to go with what Andy has said, there will always be another Stag in the future, it always makes me laugh how we can get attached to a bit of metal, get well soon and hope the job situation changes as well.

                    Regards

                        Hi John,

Wish you all the very best, mate.

Re Carmine colour code, it was BOTH 082 and CAA :?:shock:but the letter coding only came in on the very last cars - probably '77 model year cars.

Carmine was one of the few colours that ran throughout virtually the entire life of the Stag.

                        Cheers

                        Julian

                          i Would say keep.
when i lost a few family members, i used the stag as away of relaxation and as a time to think over everything and clear my head, it was nice being in the garage on my own, in peace.

if you sell you might not find another thats as good as the last ....

as long as you have a dry and warm garage, maybe have someone drain all the water ect out, it wont deteriorate, that way you can improve if possible and when possible

Hope you make the right decision and most of all hope you get well soon

                          Ben

My car has sat put for 1 1/2 years, due to the current climate i am struggling to finish of jobs on it that i have started. i have been really p***ed off with have much needed cash sitting doing nothing, there have been many times i have though off selling it i have had some tempting offers. I think it`s good too leave it for a whileand get the most important things in life sorted and then fall back on to it with good intension.

John i hope things go ok for youand yes keep your car, like me i know selling would be a bad move.

                              Hello John,

Sorry to hear your bad news. I hope things will improve soon for you.

In 2006 I was diagnosed with a pancreas tumor. Some years ago this would have been a death sentence. But I underwent some reallyheavy surgery by a specialist in Heidelberg. Today I am 100% disabled (but honestly I do not feel like it!).

After the operation I kept my TR6 and thus always had something to look forward to. After half a year Icould drive it again - slowly though.

So we keep fingers crossed for you!

                              All the best, Dieter.
