for the engine block hammerite worked fine for me. Properly degreased and dry and the spray on smooth stuff goes on dead easy
With the cooling system working how hot is it going to get? Well within the operating temp for standard hammerite.
I never bothered with the manifolds, even the high temp paint blisters and flakes off after a while and leaves a nasty mess. therefore my cast manifolds are still au-naturel.
If my heads ever come off again it's be silver hammerite for them.
p.s. the smooth stuff not the hammered finish:P
Stags and Range Rover Classics - I must be a loony
Hi there,
I bought a hi-temp silver paint from Motasave seven years ago. I sprayed some in the lid, and applied to the exhaust manifolds in-situ with a small brush.
Seven years on it still looks like new, with no flaking at all.
FWIW
I've used Carplan Engine Lacquer. Does what it says on the can.
I use Hammerite on lots of other bits and like the smooth stuff. Strangely on some of my Hammerite tins it says "not suitable for automotive applications" !!!!
