i really need to remove the steering column knuckle joint where it clamps at the bottom of the column inside the engine bay as i have a guy coming to do a small welding repair next weekend and i will want to move the cable loom and starter cable out the way and also good access to "tidy" up and paint the repair as part of the engine bay restoration joby.can this be done without removing/lifting the steering column(i suspect not) and also just found what i'm guessing is a non standard mod ie CODGE! where the boss just above the joint seems to have a brass 8's wood screw in it,this was hidden under layers of tape so never noticed it before.between the boss and the knuckle joint there are 3 large penny washers just hanging loosely around the shaft, any picys out there so i can see what it should be like and is the codge actualy dodgy? either way its going in the bin! :?

IIRC, you can remove the 4 bolts that hold the steering rack to the crossmember, and pull the rack towards the front of the car which, I believe, gives you enough room to pull the bottom knuckle off the rack itself, once you have removed the through bolt.
This should be easier than removing the whole rack, of course, which entails losing all the ATF fluid.
good luck,

Did my, got the parts from Robsport, The 2 bearings for the top end are expensive  I fitted the improved bottom bush assembly and locking ring for the top end as well. I have a annoying noise though that no amount of lubricate will cure and I'm buggered if I can find it.
