how do you stop the windows dragging down the rubber seal?

    Hi All

How do you stop the windows dragging down the horizontal rubber seal? Each time I lower the drivers window, the seal starts to move south. It goes back up with the window and pulls out of its slot. I have refitted it three times with the same end result. The passenger one does the same thing but not to the same extent.

    GRRRRR:X

    Any suggestions or tips please.

    Thanks

    Bruce

    Hi Bruce,
mine does this. The best way I have found is polish the glass with something Silicon based. It stops it for a while, then just re-apply.

I've previously lifted back the rubber with the window up and squirted some furniture polish behind the rubber on a Rover P6 with a similar problem.

        Hi Guys

I will try that trick tomorrow once I have re-attatched it for the fourth time.

        Thanks

          Hi Bruce.
Had exactly the same problem, I mention it to Tony H at the show and he thought that the car may have had new door skins and the gap at the top is wider that it should be But I don't think mine has had new skins.
So after some messing about I had a good look at the new seals and found that they were not coated on the inside (glass side) with and furflex / velvet coating hence unless you polished the glass it will always do this, I then started to look around and found some seals from Wollies that had the velvet-tex on the inside however it would not fit the stainless trim. What I did was to bond the seal along the top of the stainless trim with some black silicone RTV and it now works a treat and seals better than the original as you can run the seal past/over the window channel uprights see part No 95a (http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/c-166-weatherstrip.aspx)
holding it in place whilst it dried was the fun, first one took 8 clamps the second I simply used 2 bits of 12mm ply and screwed the ply together to make a "long" clamp that workd well. I haven't got photos of the work but could probably take a couple tomorrow if you are interested, let me know.

          Paul.

            Hi Paul

Thanks for that. If the polish trick does not work I will purchase a length of that seal from Woolies.

The doorskins on my car are original as is every other panel on it apart from the bootfloor.

            Thanks

            Bruce
