On Monday I get my Stag back from the bodyshop after some minor repairs. In nearly 17 years of ownership I have changed quite a few things on the car, which made me wonder how much of it is still original.A summarised history of some of these changes appears below, which may be of interest to new/potential new Stag owners, so that they know what they are getting into should my experience be anything to go by.
1994 – New Radiator, Disks, Pads, and Alarm.
1996 – Full Stainless Steel exhaust fitted.
1997 – Points system replaced by Newtronic electronic ignition.
1998 – Heads skimmed & hardened exhaust valves fitted.
2000 – New drivers door skin + partial respray & Electric fan fitted.
2001 – Oil pressure gauge changed for new oil fed one.
2003 - New (6-vane) water pump + new Crank & oil pump fitted.
2004 – Bodywork repairs + partial respray + new fan belt + new Alloy wheels (prior to Emigration - June 2004).
2005 – Rear lamp clusters changed for “earthed” ones, Boot stay bolts replaced + Wiper
Motor repaired, Boot lamp switch re-located + electronic distributor disk
changed. Separate Starter “Push” button installed, New (High Torque) Starter
Motor Fitted, LHD headlights swapped for RHD ones & Heads re-skimmed after
another head gasket failure.
2006 – Bodywork repairs, new inhibitor switch, + new exhaust mount rubbers.
2007 – New battery + new power steering bracket bolts & belt, + new Inlet Manifold fitted & helicoils in bolt holes.
2009 – More bodywork repairs + total respray + new wash/wipe pump & replacement door speaker for radio/cassette.
2010 – New exhaust mount rubbers.
2011 - (January) – Bodywork repairs & partial respray for damage caused by bad parkers in our Car Park.
Apart from the above the bodywork and the engine & gearbox are still original and it still drives well, how about yours?.
