    Petrol for your money

Took the Stag out today for the first time for about 3 months, concentrating on various things etc, looked down at the petrol gauge and I was just off the empty line,I had gone about 6 miles at this point and it dawned on me that all had on me was a £10 note so pulled into the next garage and put my tenners worth in,it hardly moved the gauge.

Anyway, always a bit weary of a first drive after the winter lay-up but everything seemed ok bar the tracking out which is knocking out the n/s front tyre, come back give the car a good clean and its now roll on the summer.

I ride a Triumph Sprint 1050ST to work every day, 56 reg, when I first bought it in 2006 it cost just over £12 to fill it up, now days £20 leaves it just shy of full:shock:

It is all relative at that time a 3 bedroom house would cost you £7500.

Not round here it wouldn't, 60-70K might have. But you are right its all relative, my monthly income now is around 3-4 times what it was then and petrol has gone up similarly.

Our current milk bill, with just the two of us, is the same as our mortgage was in '72. As Peter says, it's all relative. Martin.

Thanks for the compliments on the car, cost me a fortune but I enjoy it(most of the time).

On the fuel thing it was the first time I've really noticed it,stating the obvious but a couple of years ago that would have nudged the gauge up to the quarter mark, bit like when £5 wasn't enough for two pints anymore.

On the subject of your Sprint Ian how do you get on with mpg? On my T160 from the 70s that drank petrol at an alarming rate,I was lucky to get 25 to a gallon.

Hi Mark, It's not that brilliant considering it has modern fuel injection etc. Realistically I get between 30-35 mpg around town. It also eat's batteries.one a year so far (now on no 4) It's just not man enough and because of the housing for it you can't fit a bigger one:shock:

                          Hi Ian

My mate gets through batteries on his T595, always seems to be trying to wring a bitmore life out of one with the battery charger when I go round there.

I use to get my parts for my T160 at Carl Rosners at Sanderstead nr Croydon,is that a dealer you use?

Yes Rosners is still there and give good service. I made the decision this year though to service it myself as it's 4 years old now and way out of warranty.

Oil and filter from e-bay £30, Dealer £50+
Front & rear Pads, Direct from EBC £37, Dealer £130!!!!

The only thing I can't do myself is update the engine mapping software with the latest release. Previous service and MOT bills have ranged from £250 to over £500 for the big service and all fluid change. I must say it's not as good a bike as my previous one, a Sprint 955i. Might go for a Yamaha FJR1300 next time if I change it.

                            Ian.
