I run a '96 X300 (NA version of the XJR) as my everyday car. Short trips to work and back (about 6 miles each way) I get ~19 MPG, long trips, 'cruising' on the motorway, nearer 25 MPG. That's for a 4l straight-6 in a ~5000 lb car. At least it ws made in Coventry!

I bet you can get that down a bit if you try! My 4.0 V8 soveriegn can get single figures quite easily when you hoof it. I read on the jag forum that someone took theirs up to the 155mph limit (autobahn of course) and had a reading of 4mpg!!! on the computer, which would give a tank range of about 50 miles.

Mine averages around 23-24 mpg, only a little worse than the Stag.

Sure can! Just to get the 19 MPG on short trips to work and back requires really pussy-footing it. Mind you, at that time of the day you can't really go blatting about on all these small roads around here.

Mine's a Sovereign too, just the 94-97 model. It's rated at 245 BHP, yours should be 290?. The 6 cylinder XJR 340 and the V8 XJR 390! (All figures from memory.) I know someone who had to sell his V8 XJR as he wanted to keep his licence!

Sorry - far off topic! To bring it back to at least Stag content, my long-term rebuild has a much more defined end-point as my eldest son wants to use it at his wedding in July 2012. I've got less than 18 months! Help! Hopefully, it will be off for body top coat 'soon'!

        Cheers,
        Mike.
Mine since 1987. Finished a 20+ year rebuild in 2012. One of many Triumphs and a 1949 LandRover!
