There was an article in the tv magazine with yesterday's Mail on Sunday, dealing with a company in Banbury called Jensen Cars that is now producing about 18 "restored" cars a year.
Starting with an original shell / chassis they prepare it to current rust-proof standards, and then fit a 6.2lit GM 429bhp V8 and 4 speed auto-box (0-60 in 4.5 secs and 160 top-end), modern day suspension and brakes and dials and then retrim the interior (using the existing seat based etc) inside to your taste. Costs start at about £105k for one of the beasts which have the original registration numbers so to all intent and purpose they look like a "proper" unmolested Interceptor. The article quoted the driver as saying that at 2000 deep-throated revs, the car was easily overtaking M3's. :?
Being an M3 owner I thought that unlikley as I couldn't see how that could be done in anger with the lump spinning at only 2000 rpm...so I posted it onto one of the M3 forums expecting to get some amusing comments. However they all focused on my description of the cars being"restorations" and no one felt that it warranted that description. A few were insisting they were replicas (!) which I stamped on so the latest description that is being ageed on is that they are "conversions" and NOT restorations.
Anyway I can't be bothered to argue further, as I just have to pop out to my garage and carry on the replication of the Magenta Marvel into a Stag-a-like :dude:
