Forum Access Problem

After making a post as normal yesterday morning, in the afternoon the systemwould no longer log me in and wouldn't show me the Members section anymore. It didn't reject my Username & Password at all, just showed me as not being logged in when the page refreshed after taking my login.

Have reset cookies and cleared the cache but still can't get in as normal - I use Firefox by the way not Internet Explorer.

After several emails to Carl I can get in O.K. using Internet Explorer, but using the same Username & Password still can't get in through Firefox.

I normally use a shortcut on my desktop to go straight to the Forum without going via the SOC website members section, but I have since tried all sorts of ways to get in and can't unless I use IE.

Why this change should suddenly happen yesterday after years of use I don't know. Any other Firefox users out there having a problem?, or can anyone suggest what the problem and solution might be?

Hi Terry, I use Firefox and a shortcut but have not had any problems. Can you send some of your warm weather to my part of the country please. More snow forecast for tonight.

Still can't log in properly using Firefox, yet I can with Internet Explorer - very odd.

January has been very warm so far averaging about 27/28 degrees celsius.

Would send some sunshine over but Spanish post is not very reliable, and you are not allowed to Export precious commodities such as sunshine!

Still haven't had my "December" Stag mag by the way.

I use Firefox and have not experienced any problems. I use the option to remember my user id and password therefore I don't have to manually log in each time, maybe that is the difference.

However, I have experienced exactly the same problem but the other way round on another site, I could log in using Firefox but not I.E. It was sometime ago but if my memory serve me right I think the problem occurred when I changed I.E. to block cookies. I do remember I never did cure the problem so I hope you have better luck.

Hi Terry

Andrew dropped me a PM this morning, about your problem have you tried deleting it from your favorites shut down the computer and then put it back into favorites.....Somebody else had the same problem and that's how they overcame it.
Nothing has been changed this end!!!

Yes I have done all that. with Firefox favorites are called bookmarks, and I deleted all references to it, re-booted, and tried again, but I still get the same problem & can only get in if I use Internet Explorer. When using Firefox it accepts both my username and password (without any error message) but when the home page comes up it still says I am not logged in. I use Fiefox to access other Forums as well as this one, and these are still working fine.

It's a complete mystery at the moment, but it did happen once before last year, and Carl reset something that fixed it but don't know what he did or when. Don't know if it has anything to do with it - but I still haven't received my December Stag mag - it's as if I am being treated as a non-member?

I know you are about to switch to vBulletin soon, has something been done in readiness for this within the current system that might have caused it?

I have had to re-setup Internet Explorer just for access to this Forum - but don't like Internet Explorer and much prefer Firefox and hope I can use this again for access soon.

Just got my access back using Firefox.

After searching through the Help pages of Firefox, found a section on login problems using Usernames and Passwords and followed everything it said to try, and lo & behold I can now login again. If anyone who uses Firefox is interested this is what I did.

Clicked on Tools, clicked on Clear recent History, where it says "time range to clear" I clicked on Everything, and then clicked on Clear Now.

Either this did the trick or someone did something at the Website end, but I'm back on-line (groans from other Members? ) via my usual access method.

Thanks to Carl, Roger, and Andrew for responding so quickly to my problem.
