    Stag Insurance,

    Hi Folks,

I’ve just been invited by RH, the Club’s insurers, to renew my Stag insurance. Their premium, £111 seemed OK but went up to £151 when I asked to increase the agreed value from £7,000 to £10,000 , which I felt was an unreasonable increase. I shopped around and eventually ended up with Footman James, who charged me £107 for the same cover as RH and £10,000 agreed value. The compulsory excess of £50 for windscreen or any other claim seemed pretty good too. Just hope I don’t have to see how well they pay out.

    FWIW.

I've had a couple of claims with FJ in the past and they were very efficient. I approached the SOC insurers for a quote but the mileage limitation is too strict, I went back to Adrian Flux again.

Hi Peter - i'm with FJ, i have not had to use their claims service, but i'm happy with the other aspects - the thing that hooked me with them was that they are happy to give agreed value insurance when the vehicle is not garaged, many others won't.

home you stay away from the claim-line

Ian mentioned mileage - that was another reason i liked FJ, my daily usage means limited mileage is no use to me - again FJ did the honours

          Hi Peter,

I have been with FJ for years. I have unlimited mileage and have had to make a couple of claims. I must say I found them very efficient on both occasions. They ususally give me the best quote too.

Just insured through the club scheme and shaved £50 off the renewal I had from my current insurer. Not too worried about the 3000 mile limit per year but got added bonus of salvage right and spare parts in garage covered to value of car. Never really went shopping around as seemed reasonable.

Unless things have changed, and please correct me if they have, I will always go with the club scheme as you get to keep any salvage in the event of an accident or write off. For example, if the car got hit up the back, I can sell the interior, engine and loads more if it was written off.

As I say, things may have changed over the last 2 years or so, but if not, check your policy conditions otherwise you could be losing out by just saving the odd £30 here and there each year.

Plus breakdown cover, and you can get some help from the club if in dispute on a claim.

Good points Bob and they also do an excellent deal on your non classic cars.
