    recommendations for Crook Locks?

    Hi All

I am looking to purchase a "crook lock" and or a "gearstick/handbrake lock" for the Stag. Can anyone recommend a good one?

    Thanks

Probably because no one has a useful recommendation

Seriously, i think many people, with an immobiliser fitted, don't bother with a some of the other deterrents ........ and if someone is desperate to steal your car it will be wisked off on a low-loader

      ............Andy

P.S. Perhaps this reply will spark other comment

I've had one of these for years. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165565

They are no use if the gear knob comes off easily unless you have the collar that attaches to the gearlever with a grub screw. I'm not sure if the current crop have this collar. Thelock covers the collar and it prevents the device from being pulled off the lever even if the knob is removed.

Must confess that since I fitted an electronic immobiliser I usually forget to fit the Autolok.

Aimmobilizer best option i think but the detachable steering wheel is a good idea...crook locks and auto locks are a waste of time speaking from past experience.....

Don't you get funny looks when you walk into a pub with a steering wheel under your arm?

                    Hey Bruce!

Obviously if a thief wants your car, immobiliser or not, he'll cut the brake cable, pop it on a low loader and be off. I've heard so many car alarms over the years that I hardly even think a car's being nicked, justhope that the noise will stop!

I have a Stoplock 3 which I always put on, even in the garage. I know that they can be forced off or even the steering wheel cut but this takes time and a lot of b*lls from the thief. I doubt most casual tykes will have big enough ones. They can take the unguarded MGB next door!

                      Hi Johny

By a Stoplock 3 do you mean one of these?

We have one of those on the GT6 but it doesn't cover the centre boss properly due to the design of the steering wheel in that particular car.

                      Cheers

No as I if I leave it in the street or car park I lock it in the boot.....................and before you say that's easy to get in I can lock the car and give you the boot key and you still wont get in unless you use an angle grinder !!!!!

If we are staying in a hotel I normally take the wheel to our room, then if it gets taken away on a low loader at least I've got a souvenir !!

Think I fitted this about 10 years ago, the quick release and boss came from Demon Tweeks, the boss had to be ordered, but it's not that straight forward some of the kit we through away and there was quite a bit of machining to do to the rest of it, and I can't remember what we did unless I take it apart.......as for price can't remember. Sorry

i use an 'eagle claw' very good, so good in fact that i took it in another car for the day , parked in a services put the lock on the wheel and as i locked it into place i realised that the key for it was on my car keyring back in the house :shock:150 miles away

called the AA out and it took him over an hour to get it off :?

wount be doing that again in a hurry

That's the one, Bruce. Mine's a few years old now and don't think the design changed much. Been used on a Senator, Pug 405,306 , and Meriva. Sometimes you have to leave the wheel turned to get it between the spokes and the windscreen. Sometimes feed it up or down depending on the car.

I had an earlier Stoplock that the lock jammed on the Senator and butchered it off. took a good 30 min, eventually several self tapers ripped out of plastic lugs at the hinge end.

I think that the main point with these is it's hassle and it tips the balance to the thief to look elsewhere. Have to say I've had windows broken and cassettes taken witha lock on but the car still there.
