    Stromberg Jet Adjustment Modification

I saw this on a German site which refers to an adjustable jet for the CD175 for Jaguar owners and getting around an ages old problem.

Talks of being able to adjust/set up the jet height from outside if this conversion kit is fitted.

I've not started my Stromberg Apprenticeship on the Stag yet, but is this something which is useful / known for the Stag Strombergs?

      Hello Drew,

Personally I reckon this tool does not make sense with a Stag. You can easily adjust the Strombergs from the top (damper).

      Just my thoughts.

      Kind regards, Dieter.

P.S.: Ralf Zeller's place is just 30 mls. from my place.

I'm afraid that I don't know the Stromberg well enough (yet!) to understand what the conversion does. It says it does away with special tools and allows you to adjust the jet body from the outside and so avoid the unwanted dropping off of the idle speed and unwanted mixture changes.

Dieter, I thought you had SU's, you traitor! (BTW, bin jetzt Mitglied im TSCD!)

My friend Wolfgang asked me if it would be of use for his TR6 too.

          Hello Drew,

As I am just working at my PC I can answer right away.

First of all: Welcome as a new member of TSCD. Membership does not cost you an arm and a leg. Better than drinking that money away...

As to Zeller's kit: this enables you to adjust the height of the jet from the outside. But I might be mistaken: If you raise or lower the needle from the top, you end up with the same result, don't you? The "special tool" you need here is just a long hexagonal instrument - certainly cheaper than the kit.

There are SU HS6 carbs on my TR6 and I am thinking of building SU HIF6 carbs into my Stag. SU carbs are really simple and effective.

By the way: Did you receive my "Bavarian" email?

          Best wishes, Dieter.

I guess it's time to start looking at Buckey Triumphs to see how the Stromberg works and if changing the needle height or jet height have different effects. I'll put it on the "to do" list!

I'm sure I'll get to grips with a Stromberg, but it certainly has a few more moving and adjustable parts than the pair of 44IDF's on my Pinto!

Got the Bavarian pics, but without Lederhosen it doesn't really count! If you wear Lederhosen to the German National, then I'll put my kilt on!

              Hey Drew,

"gotcha"! I was wearing Lederhosen - but the "long version", not the "hot" short leather pants, which actually only boys wear. By the way: Those long teather pants are made of Stag(!) leather.

So you can have it: I will be coming in my leather pants to the European meeting. And I am looking forward to seeing you in your kilt. Beware what you put on underneath. Some ladies might be tempted to find out... I hope for you it will not be to windy on that day!

              Best wishes, Dieter.

I think I would tend to disagree with you on the "only boys wear shorts" !! You have to know that my home was in Tuntenhausen - home of the Catholic Mens' Club in deepest Oberbayern!

... Honestly, I would not really want to come from a place called "Tuntenhausen" (in English: "Sissy's Home")!

When I was a boy we used to put on our (short!) leather pants in March and take them off again in November. In between we made sure that every bit of "Leberwurst" or other grease was smeared onto the pants. Soover the yearsthey could stand in the corner by themselves.

                  Best wishes, Dieter.

By the way: I think I already told you that actually you are not a Bavarian, but a "Pfaelzer", due to the history of the House of Wittelsbach.

Not wanting to belittle German technological innovation, but I had rather thought that the gizmo comes from UK anyway. Thought it might be known on the island, hence I thought a translation would be superfluous.

If it DOES come from Germany and is not widely known in UK, then forget I ever mentioned it and its price. I'll be flogging them at Stoneleigh for £200!

Just a little aside guys, but I'm 99% sure that when fitted, you have virtually no access to the bottom of the float chamber. Martin.

For all of the english speakers, here is a sort of translated version courtesy of yahoo babel fish.

(It only makes a little more sense though!)

That is what I was thinking. It isn't exactly difficult to adjust from the top with the right tool.
