    Old Chrome.

Hi all, does anybody know of a do it yourself method to get scruffy old chrome off cam covers ? I've tried abrading but it takes too much metal off the lettering. Martin.

other than chemical stripping ie. the reverse process of plating the only way i know is oxy-acetelene heat until cherry red or white hot and it seems to fall off:shocklease dont try this at homeps this method also makes poop of the covers.

I would have thought a chrome plater would use an acid bath, do you have one local to you? failing that ------tooo risky

Would it not be easier to simply obtain a replacement set of cam covers? Ones which have not been chromed previously.

If you have a source I used sand blasting with a glass bead, cover the inside oil baffle with duct tape if its old chrome it should not take much.
