TRIUMPH STAG HOBOURN EATON OIL PUMP

I see on fleabay an oil pump for sale ( Hobourn Eaton make ) were these the original make of oil pump. Might be of use to someone although the one I fitted last year works fine with the pressure relief spring changed.

I would imagine it's hard to tell the condition of the one for sale going bythe pictures

    Hi Mike,

Only just saw your post as I finished my PM to you.

I've just rebuilt a Hoburn Eaton pump. Yes, they were the original and, by some reports, much better than the County type which is the only one available these days.

The ROM has a series of accurate tests to check out an oil pump - checking of the gaps between rotors etc with feeler gauges - and some of the tolerances are pretty small.

You're right, you really can't tell much in a picture but I guess you could ask if the seller has checked the tolerances although it's pretty unlikely. They are dead easy to dismantle and reassemble ( 2 screws and a split pin).

    Cheers

    Julian

I notice quite a few people fit new pumps; I wonder if that is because the old oneswere checked and found to be worn? The checks are easy, just need a feeler gauge and a steel ruler. I foundmine to be quite serviceable.

I have had 2 new Oil pumps fitted to mine.
The 1st occassion when I had low oil pressure and a Head Gasket failure, and on dismantling the pump it wasn't in the best of conditions.
Later, in 2003 when James Alexander of Chester fitted a new Crank, they also fitted a new Oil pump at the same time, but can't remember why?

Probably the one I'm flogging; if anyone wants any measurements let me know.

I didn't realised they would have any value until I saw another 2nd hand one sell for just short of £23, not that mine has any bids on it yet but plenty folk watching it
