    TR6 cabin size vs. Stag

Bearing in mind here that I bought my Stag without being able to drive it. I've never been in a Stag at all since I was about 18. Figure-wise, I wouldn't be mistaken for Brad Pitt, but not for John Goodman either!

My mate - drawn into classic car ownership by my exploits - has bought a TR6 and we've just been out for a spin.

HOLY COW - it's a tight fit! I found it also very "primitive" in terms of noise, vibration and harshness considering it is the same year as my Escort, which is like a modern car in comparison.

I'm actually a great fan of TR6, but can anyone reassure me that the Stag is a different kettle of fish? If you know my Bavarian Resto thread, you realise I can't try it for size at the moment!

    Drew

The Stag cabin is a fair bit larger than the one in the TR6 Drew, so I wouldn't worry.

I used to have a TR6 which I always regretted selling. The Stag is a lot roomier and more comfortable and also easier to drive but I do find the Stag to be a lot less robust than the TR6. I could drive the 6 hard and it went round corners like it was on rails. The Stag is a lot softer and I would not feel confident throwing it into bends like I could with the TR6.

Thanks chaps - I'm starting to feel a bit easier now!

I also noted that the TR6 seemed to have impeccable roadholding. My RS2000 would have started to get a bit light at the back at some of the TR6 cornering speeds.

I found that the TR6 steering wheel was uncomfartably close to my chest - is this just 'cos I'm too fat, or is there a fix for this?

Steve, that is because the TR6 was always designed and intended as a sports car and the Stag never was.

          (I had a TR5 for a number of years).

Yes I know the TR was a sports car but when I got the Stag I didn't realise the difference would be so noticeable.

Drew, cant recall any adjustment on the steering wheel position on the TR. I am sure you are not too fatUnfortunately youjust cantget the seat to go back far enough. I had the seats rebuilt in my TR and once back in the car, I could barely get my legs under the steering wheel and had to put a smaller one on.

                      Hi Drew

I am 6' 3" tall and getting wider! I find the Stag really comfortable (especially after a Westfield)

I do find the seating a tad high though and hope to adjust this downwards when I swap them (another job lined up). The ride is superb for a car of this ageand I find it glides around, although its not really something I would throw into a corner with any vigour.

                      I'm sure you'll fit mate

                      Cheers

                      Glyn

I have a TR5, but being a short arse cabin size is not an issue, but SWMBO cannot see past the steering wheel due to lack of seat adjustment ( height), Hopefully the Stag will score better in this department, especially with the refurbed seats so I am not being propped up by the floor

The TR feels very primitive compared to the Stag, it is noisy, rattly and top down on the Motorway pounds your ears to death without a thick woolly hat. The stag makes a far better long distance machine but cannot touch the TR in the road holding department. I am hoping that the lowered springs and polybushes I have fitted will help in the cornering department when I finally get it back on the road, as it felt a bit too wobbly at the back end, and tended to steer itself as the power went on and off. Wasn't noticeable with the auto box, but just felt knackered with the manual:shock:

I always wanted a RS2000 but could never afford one, there were a few Mk2s with the droop snoot for sale at the time but just out of reach,I had a 1600 Sport which was a poor compromise andsport only when it came to insure it,group 5 which was quite high in them days.

Oddly enough I haven't got any full photos, only engine bay,and I have only had my digital camera 3 years:?I suppose when you have had a car for 19 years the novelty of taking pictures of it wears off!

Of course if I washed it more than twice a year it might be worth taking pictures of, but that would remind me of all the paint work that needs doing
