Thanks for all the replies lads. The reason I questioned the other 2 connections on the switch is that when you operate the switch the terminals stay open circuit so I don't see how they can be for the reversing lights although this would seem to be logical. The reversing lights have never worked by the way and I have not investigated them. I would love to rewire the car but other than a motorbike it's my only transport. Can complete wiring looms be purchased?
The coil is 6 volt Chris, with a ballast resistor wire, 12volt to start and then 6 to run. Thanks again Terry
The inhibitor switch is a three position switch. when in neutral or park it allows the car to be started. if in reverse it will power the reversing lights, any other position it is off. On the BW35 you have to spend some time adjusting to the correct height - I think on the BW65 it just bolts straight on.

Thanks Roger, the new switch I've bought only seems to have 2 positions as regards switch operation. 2 terminals are marked 'S' and 2 marked 'R', (reverse?). With the switch in one position, ' S' terminals are short circuit and 'R' are open circuit. In the other position all terminals are open circuit. When you operate the switch though it's not really 2 position, it feels more like operating a rheostat so there could be an intermediate position that I have missed. Terry
