    Chroming Prices

    Hi,

I have been waiting for the new forum to come on-line so I can ask this!

I have never had any re-chroming done brfore so I have no idea what it should cost. I have had a quote for £165 to do the rear light clusters. This includes Stripping/Polishing/Repair to any pitting and triple plating. Does this sound reasonable?

    Cheers

    Hi Dave
I had a set of rear light frames rechromed last year, the fronts look great, no pitts nice chrome but the sides still had pitts and seemed to look worse where they had been rechromed, they charged me £40.
So at £165 I would want a guarantee that there will be no pitting and nice chrome all round, also bare in mind Dave a nice set rechromed need nice scratch free lenses to finish the job, these are not cheap.
Regarding who does chroming,I bought a rechromed overrider off a chap at Duxford last year for £20,he's name was Ken Munford,on his business card it sais 'Good Quality Chroming Undertaken' the overrider seems fine although I can't vouch for how good he's chroming is.He is in the West London area and his number is 02089981626

Hi Dave I would not think that was bad - I would make sure you use people that someone has recommended, my father had some done last year, it was cheap but it is lousy and he is going to get it done again by someone else!

        Thanks Giles,

The quote was from a Company called 'Ashford Chroming'

Ashford Chroming offers premier chrome plating and restoration services in the UK. Specializing in classic cars, motorcycles, and more. Quality guaranteed.

Being a sucker for a fancy website, they look pretty good. Anyone heard/used these guys?

        Cheers

          Dave.
I am having my cam covers chromed by a guy who advertises on ebay. I haven't had them back yet (shouldn't be too long now!) when I get them I'll let you know what they're like. I am paying £100 for the pair. This includes chemical stripping.
The guys email address is chromeworld@hotmail.com.

          Cheers
          Jason

                Hi Dave,

I wanted to get my air intake and hardtop fixing plates done last year. C&T plating http://www.chromebysandt.com/ , near Bristol, were highly recommended (IIRC Peter @ LDPart uses them) and I took them there for an estimate. They appeared to be a very professional set up, but they quoted me a minimum of £300 although the final price would depend on how the stripping and dipping went.

I couldn't really justify spending that much and I went to the guy that Jason's mentioned above chromeworlds@hotmail.com. His name is Ray Hodge and he did the job for £100. I spent some time searching for his correct email address as it was wrong in some of the ads (note it's 'chromeworlds' not 'chromeworld'

They look good, although you can still see some pitting. I guess it's a case of 'yer pays yer money and takes yer choice' and I suspect that C&T would have done an even better job, but I'm happy with the quality/price balance of Ray, although I'll have to see if they pass the test of time.

They all seem to take a little while (a month of more) to get things done normally although, as I was desperate for my grille, Ray pulled out all the stops and turned it round quickly.

I've bought a couple of other things from Ray on eBay and they've been good.

                Cheers

I do hope these guys are good - they are the people redoing my fathers chrome after the other people made such a mess of it - it was worse than when they started and the stuff he has fitted has gone rusty over the winter !! Having the main bits done by C&T now.

Thanks for the feedback guys, it looks like Ray Hodge is a popular re-Chromer - I have had a recommendation for him via PM as well. I have dropped him an email so I will see what he comes up with.

                        Cheers
