use the 60 day version of bullguard. its one of the best out there, i swear buy it.i would also reccomend backing up your data on to external media immediatly, viruses get worse with time, if you have all your data you could always just reinstal windows and then copy your data back.

if you need any help with bullguard or backing up let me know, im a pc wiz kid

You're going to have to boot into safe move and remove it from there

System Tool or SystemTool is a fake security program which is a clone of Security Tool. The program is classified as a rogue antispyware tool because detects numerous false infections and displays a lot of fake security alerts in order to scare you into thinking your computer in danger. It hopes that you will then

have you another machine you can download malwarebytes from then copy over?

ahh just saw your last reply, maybe use safe mode? to install bullguard maybe you could download it from another pc? then copy it over, safemode is selectable by continuously press F8 as your pc boots up.

              thanks

Nick is right, malwarebytes is the first tool i reach for with these fake anti virus alerts. Shutdown your PC. then switch it on and start pressing the F8 key about once a second. You will get a black screen with safe mode, safe mode with networking. select safe mode with networking then once you have logged in you might be able to download malwarebytes, update it and run it.

Are you sure it is a virus and not some sort of software clash? Have you installed anything new recently?

One thing you can try is (Assuming you are using Windows) :

                  Ctrl+Alt+Delete

                  Select 'Task Manager'

                  Go to the Processes Tab

Click the CPU Heading twice so it is showing the highest value at the top.

This is a percentage of the processor time that all of the stuff running on your computer is taking. 'System Idle Process' is fine and will probably be a very high percentage. You may also have to tick 'Show Processes from All Users'.

If anything else has a really high percentage report it back here. If it is a virus then it will probably have found a way to hide itself here anyway)

(It is a bit of a long shot and I may not be able to help but I did fix a laptop of mine this way - the licensing system for a bit of software I had installed had gone haywire)

Do you already have any antivirus software installed?

                  Rgds

Good to hear you got sorted Steve but sorry to hear about everything that's been lost.

You're not alone without backup, but it's something you probably won't let happen again !

When you lose your computer, it's almost as if something's been amputated isn't it? But compared to some things other people on here have suffered recently its not too important in the whole scheme of things. Before too long, it'll be as if it hardly ever happened, even though I'm sure you don't feel like that right now.

                      Cheers

Hmnnn. Did they not offer to back up your files before doing a wipe reinstall? If not, I would not use them again!!!!!!

Hi steve, if you want to back things up going forwards, I think the best way is to buy and external hard drive that connects via the USB port. Best to get an external hard drive that is bigger capacity than your PC then it'll still be useful if you ever upgrade to a bigger, better PC. (Cost, less than a brake master!)

As well as the drive, you'd need some backup software like SyncToy (free fom Microsoft). Once you have backed up you PC once, it will then do incremental backups rather than full systems backup after that. So it's dead quick after the first time.

If you go down this route, I'd be happy to lead you through the setup if you need someone to.

That is the way I have gone, Gord. Bought a Western Digital 500Gb My Passport Essential. It comes with the software for automatic backup. I just leave it attached to my PC and it does what it says. The good thing is that I can use it to store all my documents, photos, in raw form as well. That way I have them for use on my work PC as well if necessary.

Yep, I did that as well but, foolishly, I stored a few really big files, that I thought I would rarely need, just on the external hard drive.

You can guess what happened - the external hard drive packed up and all I get is a 'doesn't recognise the USB device' report

                              Cheers
