    Refoaming seats - any tips?

    Hi All

I have finally got the cash together and purchased a set of new foams for the seats in the Pocket Rocket (GT6). All the old foam has come out of the leather covers and we are looking forward to have comfortable seats again in that car.

I know the GT6 seats and a different shape to a Stag but I imagine the fitment technique is the same. So have of you helpful guys and girls got any good tips for me regarding this task?

    Thanks in anticipation

Only the quite well known tip of putting some polythene over the foam on the backrest to get the covers back into place and then pulling it out again afterwards, really helped me with both the Stag and our MGB when I did them. Other than that just allow longer to do the job than you think it will take! Worth it once you have done it though, you never realise just how bad the old ones were until you replace them.

      Hi Giles

Thanks for that. Is it essential that you remove the polythene sheeting afterwards? If it is left in place does it encourage condensation in the seats?

      Regards

I removed it as I was worried it would "rustle" and make a noise, as a lot of seats have plastic covers I suppose you could leave it there?

I saw somewhere - possibly on the TV an upholstery shop spraying the foam with silicon lubricant before fitting the covers. I am tempted to try this when I do mine, but I am a bit concerned that it might soak through if I put it on a bit thick. Anyone else heard of this?

              Hi Rubce
In the trade a fabric called Angel Hair is used to assist in the cover slipping over the foam and it can be left in place as it is also an anti squeak aid

                PS
be careful you do not get any creases in the angel hair ( or poly bag) otherwise it can show through the top cover when finished
