Mystery brackets on steering

I've just finished refitting my steering rack and there are two small brackets which I don't understand what they're for - can anyone enlighten me?

They are part numbers 150711 on the enclosed diagram and I have refitted them exactly as they came off the car however I'm not sure that is the correct position as it differs from that shown in the ROM.

Either way, I can't see what purpose they serve as there are four bolts that go through the fixing brackets and into the rack casing that secure and locate the rack anyway.

All advice gratefully received !

They are for the oil cooler on an auto.

Sorry to put a spanner in the works, but if they are the ones I think they are they go on the steering rack brackets, do theythey are they have diagonal elongated holes. They allow a bit of movement of the rack to allow the steering rack to clear the manifold I think, at least that what they do on mine with my extractor manifolds.

Yes, Ian, they do have the diagonal elongated holes and I guess they could be just to allow greater clearance. Having said that, I didn't see any problem before and they were mounted underneath everything so not, apparently, having any effect

Mine's a manual Bruce but that's not to say that they weren't fitted to all, just in case !

Julian, if you look at the steering rack brackets you will see the holes are also elongated in a different direction so the plates act like washers as well. when you fit them you put the curved bit of the bracket to the curve of the rack bracket.
