What do we all think then

Well a few day's in now and no real drama's. I think it's great, a few little problems, all sorted very quickly by our administrators (Thank you all involved) I'm still learning my way round with the help of other members but all in all I think it's cracking.

Big thumbs up from me. Lots of new toys to play with. I think it will take a little while to find out all of the bits and bobs, but that is part of the fun

      Not happy with it really.
It was all so easy, now I find it much harder to navigate.
It all seems to take a bit of effort now to do anything.
      Cheers

          Hi Steve,

I must say that I felt exactly the way that you do, even to the extent that I was tempted to just not bother with it any more.

However, I had such a fantastic response to my post " Help please - I'm struggling with this new forum" I thought I'd stick with it and carry on trying. There were so many people, especially Drew, who took the time to give me some specific answers and also, most importantly, some moral support and I am very, very grateful to them all

Now, I feel much more comfortable and at ease with it and so you'll all have to put up with me a bit longer now

Even when I was on the point of giving up I still realised how much effort Carl and the team had put in so A BIG, BIG thank you to every one concerned.

Still not seen many advantages over the old system yet, but I'm sure there are some and as technical support for the old one was stopping I can understand why we had to change.

Hang on in there Steve - I reckon it's worth it.

          Cheers

          Julian

I never really like change, but we seem to be getting to grips with the basics, and it's quite fun trying things out.

I don't plan to give up, I enjoy the banter and help available on here too much.
But I think we were just spoiled with the older system being so easy.

              Cheers

Yep, it is all fine from my point of view, I don't get too excited about the actual change itself, it is simply a forum - but I do know first hand the amount of effort these things take from Carl and the admins - the fact that everything has been migrated with only a couple of minor teething problems is great (volunteer) work on their behalf !

The fact that the SOC forum is now running on a software version with full vendor support is the vital element - unfortunately that value is not always obvious to all.

                Good work fellas!

I'm happy with it, its just like working on the Stag really, it gets easier once you know how to do it.

Don't get me wrong,I fully appreciate all the effort that has been put in to get the new system up and running,I was just answering the original question as honestly as I could, and personally I currently prefer the old system. I dare say in a week or so I will have forgotten about it and this forum will become second nature to use.

Julian I think the Calender will be a real plus when we get used to adding to it ,on the old forum you could only view your own entries which was a bit pointless. Also I like the ability to organize pm's into sub folders.
All in all I think its really good .

Having seen a few other Forum transfers, you guys cannot believe how good and quick this one has been! I've seen Forums where all of the old posts were just "dumped" into an archive, for example.

The guys / gals who have done this (even the gals bringing endless cups of coffee to the Techies!) deserve nothing but praise.

To expect to know how it all works within a two day period is being too ambitious. The software we have now is immensely powerful and it takes a while to get used to.

The new look will attract younger (under 60 !!) members which the Stag needs to survive.

Just consider even the little improvements like the feature that, when you hover with the mouse over a thread title, you can see the content of the thread.

How about being able to put more than one picture in a single post? Great, isn't it?

Keep playing around with the features (you won't go blind!) and you'll be up to speed in no time. If not, well.......... DARWIN RULES! (only joking)

Try out new features like the Albums. I've done a little 'show-off' album under my profile so you can get an idea of what is possible.

Try out friendship requests. That way you can see who is collaborating with who!

Maybe as things develop we can have a Humour section and possibly even a Men's Room section, so people can filter a bit what they like and what they don't like.

Believe me, this move was the RIGHT one. Not because I'm a Techie (in fact, I am developing Luddite tendencies and already prefer horses to cars!) but because it is the future of the Stag.

Just a thought to press the point home......
........ if anyone thinks it would be better to stay with the good, old, tried & tested, way of doing things, then reflect on why Britain hasn't got a car industry anymore!

                        Drew
(always ready to help out if I can!)
                        The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

Like all software it has some bugs and like all migrations it'll have (and has had) some teething troubles.

My verdict though is that it is an improvement overall and was necessary in any event. It does have some great new features so its a thumbs up from me.

I agree and now getting used to it day by day. I like the New Posts facility which saves times. My only comment would be to change the colour of a hot topic unread to a yellow colour so that its easier to pick out as its so close to a hot topic read.
