Why we moved to a new Forum

With a few of you having problems I thought I'd explain why we moved.
The previous forum had a serious lack of features, especially in the admin section. The last update was in 2007 and the support had become non existent. The forum is an important part of the club and the decision to move was not taken lightly. We started testing and preparing in December. I believe we now have fully featured system which should see us long into the future. It will take a bit of getting used to but you will soon appreciate the features of this system.
There are teething problems but the admin team of volunteers are working hard to sort things out, we have a lot to learn as well.
Please be patient while we get things organized.

Exactly the same thing happened when my other Forum :- "Tenerife Forum" moved to vBulletin.
A lot of initial critismn because it was different, but when everyone got used to it all adverse critismn stopped.
Yes - the previous one was simple and easy to use and I can understand those who are struggling to come to terms with the new one.
Bit like mobile phones in a way - I use one to make and receive calls and do the occassional bit of texting and was quite happy with the simple one I had - but it has just stopped working - so now I am looking to replace it with something a bit cleverer, and I quite like the idea of one with a pop out qwerty keyboard to make texting easier, and I may even try out some of the many other features on offer.

Carl, Brian, and Roger - your efforts are appreciated - if you could gather together all the old humourous posts - and combine them into a Jokes section, then that might bring a smile to everyone's faces.

Patience is a virtue they say, and everything comes to those who wait!

      Hi Carl,Brian and Roger,
If you've been having problems maintaining the old one, then moving to a new one makes complete sense.
Personally, I just appreciate the forum; and having a way of communicating to a huge number of like minded people (well we all like Stags!!) is worth a little inconvenience.
Especially as you're all doing this on a non-paid voluntary basis.
      Thanks to you all.
      Cheers,
      Frank

Not to forget many forum users who were used to this newer type of forum and who were struggling with the older one!

If that sounds too far fetched, how many of us would prefer to write and send information using a mechanical typewriter with carbon paper between two sheets to keep a copy rather than learn and use MS Word which is undoubtedly more complex than a typewriter? New isn't always bad!

I really don't have the slightest problem to try to learn new things. Otherwise I would loose the understanding of the world which could easily happen in my age.
From several posts I leaned that the software vBulletin is widely used. So I do not understand why there is no handbook/manual available which we could buy as a hard copy or download. I think of a manual like we all know from our digital cameras---similar to the phantastic screenshots which Drew has published. That would have avoided a lot of struggling as the questions from forum members are more or less the same.
Or is that phantasie? Who knows more about that?

          Klaus

BTW: In order to avoid misunderstanding--I do not expect such a help broshure fom our admins. They have already done work enough for us!!

Home Page of another vBulletin Forum

Just thought I'd show this as it is the Home Page that appears when you log on to Tenerife Forum which uses the same version of vBulletin as this Forum. They have got a Tenerife Island Logo top left and I think we need a Stag Logo on our home page, but no doubt that will come in time. The block that says "Friendly - Professional - Affordable" is just an Advert that was showing at the time I did the screen print.
