    Freeze plug core plug question?

I replaced all the plugs in the left hand head unfortunately they are leaking a bit with no signs of stopping, I know i could put in some sealer but i also have a small oil leak at the back of the head to block all this work was done when I overhauled the head so i am not happy with the oil leak and wil pull the head back off. I need to do a bit more checking to find out why it leaked also I will use some Wellseal in that area to seal the surface joint.More than likely I will have to take a cut in all of the bores where the plugs go to clean up the sealing surface. I should not have to cut much from the bore and I can make aluminum or brass plugs at work so my question is do you think this would work? or should I source the next available size plug and machine the head to fit this? Any body tried this?

yes it will work.....but why not try cleaning the bore & fitting a new plug with hylomar (blue or yellow ), red hermetite or p.u. / 'tiger' seal?

If the plug is not tight enough, you can care fully planish the return which makes it grow slightly.

well seal can lubricate the plug which is not helpful...if thats where you used it.

          Yes thats the stuff.

I think the tigerseal pu sealer is a dead cert to fix any leaks with problematic (or poorly designed) joints....however it is a structural sealer (has bonding and load bearing capabilities!) which means that subsequent disassembly is not as easy (especially flanged joints) as it would be with less structural sealers.

So if thats likley to be an issue consider hylomar:-

or dirko:- http://www.frsport.com/Elring-Dirko-...nd_p_1287.html (hi quality automotive specific)

As mentioned before the bore can be cleaned up & the plug can be very carefully planished to increase the fit.

There are alternative pu sealers to tigerseal....once opened the remaining pu sealer in the tube solidifies quite quickly (a few weeks at most)

PU sealers were first used in automotive for windscreen bonding!

Hylomar is a good gasket sealant but I dont think it sets hard, which is fine for seals like the valve cover that need to be removed for servicing. I would use a setting cement like Hermetite (green if you can still get it). Not used Tiger seal but that sounds good.
