    Search help on new Forum

To all of you web gurus....

I don't seem to be able to enter a string or two word in the new forum. I have even tried looking on google and vbulletin website, but couldn't see how.
Can anyone tell me how to do this, as my searxhes since the forum moved have been fruitless
    Thx

What are you looking for? I have just tried tubular exhaust as an example in advanced search and at least the first two topics shown had these words together as a string.

      I was looking for
      1) Door lock
      2) Mk1 to Mk2 changes

It does find the individual words if they appear in a search, but doesn't seem to show only those posts with both / all words in the phrase.

perhaps because the word "tubular" only ever turns up in connection with the phrase "tubular exhaust" ?

          Bells?

Well door locks appear together if you put them in the advanced search Quotes around the words doesn't seem to make much difference. If the search of the posts doesn't find the answer, perhaps the topic has not been covered or the search term is wrong/needs refining.

As to Mk1 to Mk2 changes, I would suggest this needs refining. For example, is this changes to make a Mk1 into a Mk2, dates of the different changes etc. Also some informatiion is about Mk1 to Mk2 changes is on the the home page of stag.org as well as external sitesl sites such as http://www.stagbytriumph.co.uk/ and http://www.triumphstag.net

The problem is that the search finds too much. <Door Locks> finds posts with 'door locks', posts with 'door', posts with 'doors', posts with 'locks', posts with 'locksmiths', posts with 'Tandoori' etc.

I googled the problem and it seems to be known with VBulletin that the quotes ("Door Locks") don't work unless some SQL, or scripting, or server extension gobbledegook isn't enabled or selected or whatever. That seems to be the problem here.

If you do remember who the post was by, then this can be entered too and narrows the fireld down a bit.

Also, tick the Display Posts options rather than display threads as that helps searching for the relevant information.
