    Baby seats?

    Hi

One of the reasons I bought a Stag, apart from the open top / or not open top, styling, power and noise, was the fact it has a decent rear seat for the little one.

What I'd like to ask if anyone has a baby seat (forward facing) fitted - and if so, what type. I have rear seat belts in my Stag (Mk1).

    Cheers

    Alan,

When you say baby seat which age group are we talking? I've had a couple set up in mine but for 5 years onwards. They have worked fine but I have static belts which I felt safer with.

      Hi

I need about a seat for a small baby ... from 9kg (new money) or 20lbs (old money) - approx 9 months onwards.

      Cheers

Alan, britax do a good one, although i cant remember the type, it can be used forward facing and rear facing (for new born up 9monts) Its quite bulky but should fit the stag.If you go to Halfords they will let you try before you buy!

Can i ask what rear seat belts you have?

I have just been to Halfords to get a forward facing Maxi cosi seat fitted for a 9Kg + baby. Neither of the maxi cosi seats fitted, or the Brittax, my seat belts are about a foot too short for the complex route they have to take on these seats.

I have 2three point belts, but not inertia belts, they are the older style where the length has to be adjusted manually.

The other issue with the child seats is that they don't fit well on the back seat, most have big plastic bases which are flat, the stag seat has a compression where the back side would sink in.

I plan to change the belts to inertia ones to fix the issue, i notice T Hart has some on ebay for about £45 + £8p+p.Can anyone recommend a better or cheaper supplier?

          Thanks Alastair

I saw a stag at the standard triumph day last year that had a reasonably raised child seat in the back. I have to say I felt a bit sorry for the little chap that had to go in it. It was a warm day and they had the hood down...

When I fitted rear belts a few years ago the rear inertia belts supplied weren't long enough for the convoluted route they were supposed to follow through the particular child seat I had. After discussion with Tony Hart and the seat belt supplier I ended up with a pair of front inertia belts which were longer. The only draw back was the extra cost involved as I had to buy the cheapest set of Stag rear belts (static lap belts) as well as the front set in order to have the right length of webbing to go through the centre of the rear seat - the front set came with catches on stalks.

i have just ordered two rear sets of inertia belts from EJ Ward, i phoned them first and they didn't seem to think there would be an issue with the seat belt length.

Hopefully i will get them by the weekend and will find out. Fingers crossed i can use the same anchorage points from my existing 3 point belts so its a quick easy job.

Problem with the bulky child seats in the back is the lack of legroom for the children. Even with the passenger seat right forward, some of the bulkier seats do not give more than a couple of inches of legroom. We went in this arrangement to Crich a couple of weeks ago, and the passenger in front had to endure endless pushing from my two year old son behind!

The child seats also sit rather high in the back. Ours pushes the back window on the soft top out by an inch or two, and I wouldnt want to travel far with Benjamin's head sticking up that high with the roof down.

When your little one gets a bit older, the booster type seats are just fine with much more room for legs.

I chose a Stag for the same reason. Just need some decent weather this Summer, and we can enjoy some shows etc with the family.
