Slick 50 or similar or leave well alone ????

Going to do first oil change on my Stag at weekend.
Used Slick 50 back in 80's on Dolomite.
What's the view - use Slick 50 or similar addative or leave well alone to just 20/50

    Appreciate views/advice

    Thanks

for me just regular changes and good quality oil like Millers but some people like additives. One point if you have a manual box do not put any in the gearbox, the overdrive will not like it.

Hiya, I've used Slick 50 in many different cars over quite a long period, and found it to be very good, tappety engines run quieter, oil pressure can come up quicker, engines generally become more mechanically refined, but I think with the Stag, I would rather know the real state of things, and engine sounds are an essential guide. Like Giles, I use the best oil I can afford, in my case, Valvoline VR1 Sport, it has a good addative package and I'm content with that. Up to you mate, don't forget what a special car you've got. (as if) Martin.

This is always a difficult one and I'm sure you'll get many differing views

I don't know what's best, however I know that Peter at LDpart, whose judgment I value immensely, speaks highly of Activ8. He's produced an incredibly detailed report of his oil pressure and all details of oil changes etc over, IIRC, 100,000 miles and he's used the stuff for much of that mileage.

On the basis of Peter's recommendation, I've used it however I have no idea if it's done any good, although I don't think it's done any harm !

So, there's sitting on the fence for you - have you gat a coin to flip ?

        Cheers

Activ8 is the only additive with proper evidence of its benefits above all others & oil with no extra additive.
          It is very expensive though.

Not usually wowed by additive demos but Activ8 s demo is impressive.

As I mentioned, I really am undecided about the benefits of Active8 but I'm willing to give it a try.

I say this because I wouldn't want to be accused of trying to 'sell' it but, although it costs about £30, it is supposed to last 25,000 miles or 5 oil changes which makes it more reasonable.

            Cheers

Shameless SOC plug - the latest SOC magazine has a deal on Valvoline VR1 Sport 20W/50 where you get something like ~£7.50 off per 5ltr bottle from EuroParts. You just need to take the magazine into their store. I did this on Sat and bought 2x5ltr no problem.
