Fitting a Radio to my Stag

I have decided to fit a radio to my stag. After spending a long time finding something that meets my requiremetns but is not too modern looking I have ordered all the bits I need to fit it.

Most modern radios these day have outputs for 4 speakers. I would only like to bit two speakers in my stag so my question is does anyone know if it is ok to just use one left and one right speaker and leave the other left and right speaker unconnected. Will this damage the Radio does anyone know?

    Kind regards

Based on my experience, providing you select the left and right outputs from either the front or rear channels and don't mix them you should have no problems.

Just make sure you insulate the speaker outputs you aren't using so there's no danger of a short circuit.

It should be fine, but I've got two back speakers connected as normal, and I also have a single front oneunder the original speaker grill connected to the +ve of the left front output and the -ve of the right front output. For me at least, this seems to "fill" the car much better than just the rear speakers, whilst still giving most of the stereo effect.

Thanks for the feedback. Interesting idea for the third speaker.

Did you use the built in speaker already there or did you replace it with another?

How did you calculate the power rating of the speaker in the front when connected across both left and right front channels? This is a really interesting configuration but I cant get my head around howthis 3rd speaker isworking.

Does anyone know the rating of the internal Stag speaker?

          Steve,

You can get very small speakers of good quality now. Do an internet search or visit the local ICE shop. I have made up a plate to fit the dashtop speaker hole and have a couple of small speakers in there. Can't see any difference from the outside, but it improves the sound balance. You should be able to get a couple of 2.5" ones. There is quite a depth available, so you may even get a couple of 3" ones if you are clever with bracketry and fit them below the surface of the dashtop.

Not sure what the power rating of the original Stag speaker is, but can't be much. Modern ICE puts out around 45 watts per channel, way more than the original Radiomobile or similar radios of the 70's and would probably blow original speaker in minutes.

I like Dave's idea of the 2 smaller speakers in the dash top and will investigate this myself as currently my front speaker are mounted under the dash either side of the transmission tunnel and are muffled as a result.

That is a clever idea of two speakers in one grill,

              Will give it a go

              Thx
