is my colour british racing green

    Hi

I wondered if anyone could tell me if brg is an origonal colour for stags. I have found yellow paint all over my car so believe it was origonally yellow. I need some paint to repair some chips and repairs i have carried out. Can youtell if my car is brg from the photos.

    Cheers

Looks a bit dark for BRG to me but it's a small photos and photo's can be deceptive. My Stag's an orignal BRG car. Paint code 75 and only produced for one year 1975 according to James Taylor.

    Here's a pic for comparision [1]

[1] it's been resprayed twice now but the original painted bits e.g under the underseal/ transmision tunnel paint still match the re-painted bits pretty well

There are as many different colours of "British Racing Green" as there are manufacturers. I don't think there is actually a definitive colour called "British Racing Green", even the colour on "real" British racing cars from the past varied from year to year.

The Stag British Racing Green, as Nick says, is Triumph Paint Code 75. Original paint manufacturer was Pinchin Johnson. This should be sufficient information for a paint factor to ascertain the correct shade. But you might be better getting a swatch match as your does look dark compared to Nick's.

            Hi Jordo,

Local paint factor matched mine up as "New British Racing Green" code EL BLVC 254 this is a match to what was "Rover Racing Green" code P030 CC43 on a receipt from the 80s.

I've no idea if this is the match for code 75,but mine looks a very similar shade to yours, (on my screen anyway).

Hope this gives you at least a starting point.

              Hi Jordo,

I had the same problem on my car as i needed to re spray around the windscreen. It may seem excessive but i took my boot lid off and took it to a local paint factors, turns out the re spray was done in Triumph Pimento Red so some one in the past got the right paint code .

And yes i did get some strange looks walking into the shop:dude:

              Cheers

                Hi Nicka

Think your wrong about the year (1975) as your car is R reg and this is Aug 1976 to July 1977.

I seem to remember that BRG - Inca Yellow & Russett Brown were the colours for that model year, although you could still get the plain jane Red's and White (No bias as mine is a gorgeous shade of Brown)

Inca Yellow and Russet Brown were indeed 1977 year only colours. The dark green for that year was Brooklands Green.

James Taylor writes about Brooklands Green, Inca Yellow, Russet Brownand Tahiti Blue:"It is likely that these colours were available only on the very last cars. They may have replaced certain other colours in the range".

Probably just slow from factory to delivery.
