    bumpers, chrome or stainless

    Looking for help

stainless steel or rechrome existing bumpers

Im looking for guidance please on which way to go with this.
The existing bumper set is in good condition with no welding or dents, minimal pitting just a bit dull.

Also has anyone fitted the bumpers from Harringtons as they are £200 cheaper than Wards set at £709 for the full set of stainless

    Thanks

These are mine from Harringtons - just assembled but waiting mounting irons from Wards. They look very good - I'll let you know how they fit................

Yes. Arrived after a few weeks, superbly wrapped. Nuts & bolts weren't quite right in terms of numbers but wasn't important as I have tons at home. I'm worried about the posts I have read concerning mis-fitting mountings, but I can't tell what will happen till I get the mountings. I did buy my bumpers about a year ago, and I understand the problems have surrounded more recent bumpers, so here's hoping.

At last! I've just had notification from Wards that they are expecting a new batch of bumpers in two weeks, so hopefully shortly there after I will receive my replacement St.St. front bumper, 8 weeks after first raising the wrong hole centres issue with them.

Wards bumpers on the website are £805 + vat now.

Picked up a set at Stoneleigh today for £750 inc vat.

Their bumpers are the complete package, even with stainless fixing it.

            Happy days...

P.s Your bumpers are safe now Andy!!

I didn't know I was going to be buying them then!
It was only when I realised that the price was including vat that they became attractive

                    Sparky,
I got a set for my MK1 from Wards sometime ago (2 years??). To be honest I thought that the Wards ones came from Harringtons anyway. They fitted OK but needed a bit of careful jiggling and careful tightening and the mountings need some fettling as most repro stuff does. Not sure if the bumpers and mounts were wrong or more likely the car isn't still quite the same shape as it left the factory.

Overall very pleased with the fit and finish. Two (ish) years on still clean, shiny and uncorroded and I live in an exposed area very near to the sea - most chrome gets pitted after a few months in the winter without lots of protection and TLC.

Two negative comments - nothing to do with the quality but with stainless steel.

                    1. It scratches easily. It is no where near as hard as chrome.
                    2. Although the shine is good it is not the same as good quality chrome.

You need to get a quote to get yours rechromed. If they are originals with no pitting then they might be worth doing - but you will have to make sure you protect them well to stop them rusting again. With stainless it seems to be fit and forget - but watch the scratches.

But presumably they can be polished out?
