Does anyone know, or has anyone tried an alternative visocus coupling type ERC2849?
These are Land Rover types.
Yes, Chris. Bought one over two years ago after 2 from a Triumph supplier failed in quick succession and a 3rd replacement span freely but they refused to change it again.
My Land Rover part came from a gov't surplus outlet, and the remainder of the stock was bought by other Forum members. This one is still working as it should.
The Land Rover packaging had ERC2849 on it and the part has Holsett Huddersfield cast into it. I have now found a photo I took before fitting it: DSC01158.jpg
There is no part number stamped on it. The failed ones all had TKC0101 stamped on them.
Hi Chris, These are the very ones that you found that" Roar" when the engine is revved and spin in unison with engine revs at all speeds. They are from EXMOD (ERC2849, Holsett Huddersfield ).Maybe I got a faulty one from the batch?.
Sukh.
Thanks Dave, thats what I was hoping for. Mine is also in Land Rover packaging and is Holset Huddersfield in the casting. At least yours has lasted 2 years so far, and hopefully will go on to last.
But Sukhi I am a bit concerned about your experience; that seems to contradict Daves experience. Was it genuine and in Land Rover packaging? Where did you buy it from?
SGN: LD Parts sell the part TKC101 which is the correct stag number. Mine is ERC2849.

Yes, it is genuine, in Land Rover packaging and wrapped in corrosion proof wrapping. It was purchased from the very same government surplus outlet ( Thexmod.com ) that some of the forum members bought some time back, I believe around april-may 2009.The same one as DJT's posted above.
Sukh
I have bought a couple of these Land Rover couplings because I suspected the one on the car (this was new 18 months ago) is not slipping enough; the fan was quite noisy when revved up.
I just tested the 'old' viscous coupling and I got a max reading of 2277 rpm when revving up hard. I could not get a reading above this although I didnt record the actual max engine revs as I didnt have an assistant.
I have concluded that the old viscous coupling is working to spec, but I am sursprised the reading was so low as the fan is quite noisy. Pehraps it shows that using my ear is not a reliable method of checking them out. Lesson learnt for now.
