If you have machine capability I bored a coupling to thw existing O/D made the wall thickness about 3/8 then cut it in segments and welded in place leaving room for the bolts When you weld it be careful not to distort the housing I had the extension bolted to a fixture when I did this. Stuart

If you leave the quill shaft in, won't the sand damage the oil seal surface of the shaft?

the reason i though id leave the quill shart in was so sand would not get inside the main body and id tape up the end of the quill shaft

          any other idease

I owned my stag for 19 years and broken 3 crown wheels but no problems with nose extention apart fro oil leaks (easily repaired with new oil seal )

Can a new quill shaft be bought for this extension or are they totally "unavailable"

They're freely available. I took the easy option and bought an exchange strenghened extension with new quill shaft installed from Arthur Smith at Stag Tech in Darlington.

If the condition of your rear suspension etc is OK, then there should not be any tension on the cone etc. You don't have to do this mod but if ever it is off, do it for peace of mind.
how would i know if there was any tension?
