    Rear tyre wear

6,000 miles ago four new tyres were fitted. The fronts are still perfect. The rears are expectedly worn a little but... although the main tread is fine the inner shoulders have scrubbed completely off.

No heavy loads have been carried (not even rear passengers) and no towing done. The camber of the wheels is the same as the fronts. I can't find a reference in the manual to what this should be though.

Could it be worn bushes on the trailing arm connections causing toe out tracking? Everything seems nice and tight and the tyre wear is very symmetrical.

Anyone else experienced similar or have any comments or suggestions?

Besides the usual, wheel bearing or worn bushes, it is advisable to get 4 wheel tracking done. If it has taken a knock or even with general wear and tear it can come out of adjustment. The rear tracking is done by shimming the trailing arm at the subframe; its in the manual.
I think Rod said he use ATS in the Royston area but I will have to check with him. he said it made a significant difference.
I will be looking for somewhere in the Huntingdon area shortly.
    Hope this helps.

Apparently Quickfit, Histon Rd Cambridge do it. I'll take it to HiQ in Peterborough.

I saw the shimming section in thew manual. Doesn't tell you how much ro shim to make a specific correction though.

Have a check to see where, if any, your shims are fitted first. They should always be fitted to the outer bracket. Take some spare shims with you in case more are needed. Having said that, if there is to much 'Toe-out' then there are possibly too many shims there.

OK I understand, but will have to wait now. No transmission trumps three issues.

Sorry mate but I wouldn't go near QuickFit, you'll wind up with the lad, who doesn't know what he's doing and couldn't care less. It's EXTREMELY unlikely they'll have the details of the shim / adjustment ratio. Good luck with your clutch. Martin.
