    Lumenition Faults

Has anyone had issues with Lumention playing up ? If so how does it manifest iteself. I have a problem with rough running/miising/cutting out and have checked carbs, fuel pump etc and all seem ok. Problem comes and goes during journeys. Lumenition is the only thing not checked and mechanic friend suggested the ignition system.

    Any info appreciated as always.

Can't help you Martin but, other than that, hasn't it been a good week for us Spurs fans?!

I had a problem with mine the other day and I was convinced that it was an intermittent break in the wiring coming out of the distributor. Rang them up to ask how much for a new optronic sensor and loom and the guy there said it's unlikely to be the loom, just squeeze the female connectors slightly. I was sure it was the loom as just wiggling the wire set it off but, you know what? He was spot on and saved me £50 odd.

They are really helpful if you speak to them and their website is really useful (although I did find it a bit hard to find what I was looking for at first).

Take a look at the 'fault finding' at the end of this: http://www.newtronic.co.uk/new/suppo...stallation.pdf
assuming you've got the optronic system.

      Good luck.

      Cheers

Good week indeed, certainly better than old Arsenal thats for sure. Just hope they can keep going and finish fourth (or above) again !

        We will see.

If I could get running problem sorted I would be even happier !

The short answer to the first question is yes, some people have had problems with failing Lumenitions (i also know of many who are very satisfied)

When mine failed the symptoms were occasional hesitating/missing, which gradually got worse - eventually it gave up - i replaced mine with a Pertronix/Aldon Ignitor.

the link Julian provided has a set of tests for checking out your Power module and optical switch.

I have seen too many Lumenition failures for my liking.

I'd had the distributor out a couple of times to prime the oil pump. When I started running the car for the first time in 3 months I had an occasional missfire and one time I had a massive backfire (build up of unburnt fuel)

When I started looking at it closely, I found that I could make it missfire every time if I wiggled the three wires that come out of the distributor into the block connector. I didn't seem to be disturbing the connector at all - just the wires - which made me think that it was an intermittent break in one of the wires. However after advice from the guy at Lumenition, I squeezed up the female part of the connector and the problem disappeared completely.

                Good luck.

                Cheers

Thanks all, will try the checks and see if it is the Lumentition.

Just had the same problem with the lumenition on the Estate. Damp had got into the 3 pin plug over the winter and it was a little corroded. Pulling it apart a few times and squeezing up the female side of the plug cured it. That is the problem with having a clean and shiney car, it doesn't get used in the winter then goes wrong in the spring. All my unwashed filthy examples never go wrong, well at least not electrically

I have seen new connector blocks advertised for Lumenition. Possibly on eBay. These are supposed to cure the problems with the original design.

I never had a luminition play up or fail as far as I am aware.

However, I read so many threads about them I got paranoid so I changed to an Aldon Igniter (sp?) does look neater!
