Seat belt sensor where is this located

Gent's last year after floor replacement and carpet installment I have found that the seat belt light stays on constantly. I could not see any sensor located bellow under the seat, so I can only assume that it has been removed at some point. Could anyone tell me where it should be located.

    Hi Mike,

It's pop riveted to the seat diaphragm, although I seem to remember it was above it so you wouldn't see it without dismantling the seat. However you should be able to see the wiring loom, with 2 wires that go under the carpet to a connector on the centre tunnel near the seat belt buckle.

I've got a couple of spare ones if you need one.

I took mine out as a) I wanted to keep my car's wiring as simple as possible; b) I thought I'd use the warning lamp for something else - low coolant for example and c) I've got my own passenger seat belt warning system - they're called eyes !!

    Cheers

Goodday all: my first post, I have been viewing the forum for a while, now on my 2nd Stag - picture following when I can work out how to attach it! In the meantime, I am also in the throes of fitting new carpets, and found a nice selection of wires under the carpets not connected to anything. The centre buckle fittings also has a plug and socket connector on each, which I assume connects to the matching plug/socket arrangement under the carpets, there is also a separate socket under the passenger seat, which, I presume, is to plug into some sort of sensor - not there - on the passenger seat. I know the belts were changed by previous owner to match the interior - they are beige rather than black - do the belts also have to be specifically for the sensor activated type, or will any belt do?

Hi John, welcome to the forum

All that is important is that the buckle is the same and that the centre female part is the original and has a sensor switch built in. The new belts that are being sold, do not turn the seat belt light off. You are quite right about the wires that you have found and they will only be on the passenger side.

Hi Andrew, thanks for that, debating whether I should re-instate the sensor - see how I get on with the carpets!

Hi Andy: good to hear it. When I 'retired' again I got a excellent condition Mk2 locally, from Pete Beer, so I knew it was well sorted. It has been boringly reliable to date, I'm currently fitting new carpets, and looking forward to having a summer!

                All the best
