    Hard top fitting

    Hi

    My hardtop doesn't fit quite straight at the back of the car. As you look at the car from the rear it's slightly higher on the right than the left/ I'm sure it's a queation of adjusting something, but not sure what? It's not a big issue as I have never used it and probably wont but would like to know if there is anything that could be done.

      Hi there,

      Under the rear corners of the hardtop you will see what appear to be rubber buffers that should contact the deck panel. These are adjustable for height.

      In fact, the 'buffer' is just a cover over a bolt that screws upwards into a plastic insert in the hardtop. Obviously, screwing this bolt in or out will adjust where the buffer sits.

        Great, thanks. Also, is it easy to replace the rubber seals on the Hardtop? My hard top is in ok condition but the seals are perrished.

          That's not so easy ! The front and rear seals, as supplied by all the suppliers today, are identical although not quite like the originals.

          They sit in an aluminium channel and it's usually a bit of a b****r to get them in. Having said that, when I did mine, I lubricated them with Swarfega and it turned out to be not too bad a job. I slid mine in but as more and more of the material is in the groove it gets harder. A blunt screwdriver may well help as may opening the channel slightly.

          Luckily I had an original front one which is stitched down the centre to make it sit on the header rail better but the new ones aren't like that. It's probably worth you doing a search on here as I remember seeing lots of advice on here for fitting non-original seals. Also, I think that new ones are probably harder than the original ones.

          Good luck - I completely rebuilt my hardtop and I reckon it was well worth the effort - a Stag with a hardtop is a different car to one with the soft top I reckon !

            I agree, I love the look of a stag with the hard top on. If only it wasn't so heavy to put on and off. Has anyone ever made a fibreglass version?

              Yes - the trouble is you can easily tell, and I don't think the side windows open. Martin.

                Think it was made by Lenham. No opening windows or headlining.

                  As far as I know Rimmer Bros now own the moulds, but have never made any, or at least not for a long time. I guess there is not enough demand for them to justify making a batch.

                    I owned a fibreglass hardtop for my previous stag. It was as heavy as the metal one on my current stag! Whoever designed it didn't subscribe to the theory of "less is more"!!!!!!

                      I have an original Lenham hardtop and it uses the original opening rear windows and has a grey fabric headlining, plus is much lighter though still not a one man job due to the size.
