    K&N Filters on SU carbs?

    Hello everybody,

I managed to install the two SU HIF6 carbs last weekend. Unfortunately the two conical K&N filter, which I had installed on the carbs with sawed-off Rover SD1 elbows (see my other post) cannot stay on the carbs, as they conflict with the EJ.Ward header tank.

So I have to look for another solution. The following K&N filters fit into the space available and directly onto the carbs:
    RU-0940 (70mm flange, 140mm diameter, 76mm width) or RC-2000 (oval 178x114mm, 51mm depth).

Do you think the air intake will be sufficient? Which model might be most suitable?

    Kind regards,
    Dieter.

Sorry but not really sure about your specific question but I've taken a look at your other post and with some lateral thinking I've a possible alternative . . .

Why not utilise these elbows to take a remote cold air feed instead ? This would require some work on ducting and I guess they need to be equal length (might not too pretty as a result but the cooler air might release some more horses for you !)

In the office and just thinking aloud here, from each 'elbow have a shortish duct joining to a 'Y' piece roughly where the original Stag air filter was and then route a single duct to your remote filter location - which as you've a header tank, a remote filter might fit nicely where your old expansion bottle once lived

Something like the K&N Apollo universal induction kit might do nicely and is supposedly good for 250BHP eg http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/K-N-Apollo-Int...item1c194770cb

I picked up a clean one of these s/h for around £45, not for our Stag but intended for use on our Commer campervan which all suffer from trapped engine bay temperature. Even for our Holbay engine it will be overkit but at that price, being an enclosed unit it can be mounted almost anywhere

      K&N Filters

      Hello Paul,

Thank you for your input. This looks really tempting.

The problem in our country is, however, that you must be careful with such obvious alterations to a classic car. For a classic car you get an "H" registration ("H" for historic). This means that your car must be in good shape and more or less original. Only then are you entitled to such a status, which does not mean that your car is completely tax-exempt, but you only pay a minimum road tax.

So I need to keep an almost original look of my Stag. With chrome-capped K&N RC-2000 filters this is more likely, as most TUEV-examiners (equivalent to MOT) have no clue what an original Stag looked like. An Apollo kit looks very "modern" compared to a RC-2000.

      Best wishes,
      Dieter.

        Hi Dieter
I would think those filters would be ok as you are using 2 of them but you could always ask K&N to be sure

Fair enough Dieter, I hadn't realised the TUEV requirements
