This is my first post, but I've been a regular visitor to the forum during my 5 month recomissioning of a 74 MK2 Auto! It's almost complete now but there is a slight oil leak (worse when cold) that seems to be coming from the top of the oil pump where it mates to the block, all I can see are a few drops of oil on 2 of the 4 pump mounting bolt heads, which develop slowly and then drop on to the floor. Is it possible to remove the oil pump without removing the RH exhaust downpipe? I'm suspecting that, after 8 years standing, the O ring in the mating surface is shot. Ay suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Mel.

Hi and welcome
Good advice from Ethel
Mine wasn't the pump it was the oil pressure switch and associated parts there, from memory I think there is a "transfer box/plate" or some kind of fitting to the block which comes off and also has a seal in it. I took the lot off and replaced all the seals/o rings and hey presto no leaks
I did have the exhaust off and the manifold to do this all in one go (cured the pesky exhaust leak too!) Although I think you can do it with the exhaust in situ but very fiddly.
Once the exhaust is out of the way the whole job is fairly easy and straight forward
I found the best way to track it was clean the whole area with gunk and a well aimed jet wash, then get under there with a good light and view where its coming from
Hope this helps
Cheers
Glyn
