    Sump gasket renewal

Just a quick question - can a new gasket be put in by just lowering the sump an inch, or is there a strainer/pipe hanging down into the sump?

Dont want to go through the rigmoral of undoing steering rack and cross members if I can help it.

    Cheers....Al

    Hi Al.

There is a strainer hanging down in the sump.

Considering the agro in dropping the rack and cross member,it might be worth a punt, slitting the sump gasket and then sealing it with some silicone. If it doesn't work all you have lost is a couple of quid for a gasket and a few pence worth of silicone RTV. Frankly I have never got one to to seal right without RTV anyway!

      Hi Ian

Had a feeling there was. I've had an annoying leak since the rebuild. I changed the rear crank seal a while ago, but broke the sump gasket in the process, so still have a leak.

Might as well do it properly once and for all (hopefully)

      Cheers...Al
