    Hi Mark

These are the instructions I had with mine :-

1: White/Red (blade terminal) - connect to the starter trigger wire at the starter solenoid,(remove wire usually white/red from the solenoid and connect directly to the blade terminal).

2: Brown/Red (spade terminal) - connect to starter trigger terminal on starter solenoid, where previous white/red wire was connected.

3: Brown (ring terminal)- connect to 8mm (5/16") stud at solenoid, battery side.

4: Black (ring terminal) - connect to a suitable earthing point.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

The connections to the 4 pin relay are as follows:
        1 to relay 85
        2 to 87
        3 to 30
        4 to 86

Thanks guys... I 've checked the wiring, correct, the battery is charged and I've made sure that I have a good earth and the thing is making the click; any thoughts on what to do next?

Does anyone know of any simple tests I can do to test the solenoid either on or off the car?

              In hope.

                Hi Mark,

If you take the solenoid off the car it is really simple to fix. The REAL cause of most clicks is damage caused by arcing & oxidation of the heavy copper termials within.

So pull it off, remove the two screws holding the plastic cap. Then whilst pulling gently on the cap, heat up the two soldered terminals with a heavy soldering iron or mini gas torch & remove the cap. This will reveal the copper contacts.

Re-face the contacts with a file and a bit of emery and put it back together again. Should take less than an hour & most of that is removing & refitting the solenoid.

You should then be click free!

I can only think that using a relay to power the solenoid is to let it 'bang home' as hard as possible, but it's really the bad contacts in the solenoid that are the problem.

I have removed the starter motor now, so will look at this over the weekend. Just to be sure is it the cap on the stater or solenoid I'm taking off?

Great advice Gavin, cap off cleaned up and back on within an hour. Dose it click, no way, it spinning the engine beautifully.

Thanks once again to all that helped.
