    Alloy Wheel Nuts

Hi, I have just fitted reconditioned alloys and have been told that rather than buy new s/steel or chrome nuts that the original alloy ones can be cleaned and polished to look really good. Has anyone done this or do you have any advise?

Hi Nick, as sad as it sounds, go for the stainless ones, the alloy ones are really not up to it, they're the only ones I've known to strip - sorry. Martin.

      Hi Nick

Can't help with your question I'm afraid, but welcome to the mad house!

I'm coming down to Somerset (Ash Priors area) tomorrow to see my Mum, which part are you in?

      Cheers....Al

            Hi Martin
Thanks, not the answer I was hoping for, stainless ones look a load of money.

may not be what you wanted to hear, but it is sound advice remember, if you have locking wheel nuts already then you only need to buy 12 new ones

Sorry mate - not a good start. Welcome by the way. Try a note in the "buy sell swap" section, you never know who's got what lying about. Tell us a bit about you and your car, Mk2 ? Auto ? Colour ? Martin.

Welcome and Hurrah ! At long last, someone else on here from Somerset. I'm just the other side of Wells from you and was biking around Street during the week. Didn't see your car though !

                  Cheers

                  Julian.

I'm going to have a go with paint stripper and polish with autosol, will let forum know result unless its a disaster.
Have owned our Stag since 1984 having bought from father-in-law who bought it new in 1974. ie MK2 (M).
It's white, auto and just back from some renovation work at E.J. Wards having never had any TLC on bodywork, now looks fabulous.

                      Hi Nick
Go through Bridgy, up over the hills and down the otherside towards Bishops Lydeard. It's a couple of miles from there.
Used to live in Bishops Lydeard when I was younger, and also Bridgwater when I was 20.

                      Cheers....Al

Isn't early retirement fantastic, just got to my fourth anniversary, where did that time go?
Will keep an eye open for your BRG Stag.

Had a really good go at cleaning up wheel nuts using stripper (nice girl) and blow torch but neither very satisfactory.
Going to have to bite the bullet and follow your advise and buy S/steel.
